Heavenly Mountain Resort, located near the California-Nevada border at Lake Tahoe, is well known for being a fantastic winter playground. The resort has more than 97 runs and 30 lifts, providing plenty of capacity for skiers looking to explore its magnificent slopes. With more than 4800 acres of skiable terrain, there is plenty of space to spread out, and the resort is the highest in the Tahoe area, reaching heights of over 10,000 feet.

Even though it has a long ski season, generally stretching from November to April, Heavenly has also expanded its operations to lure visitors during the summer months too. To that end, the resort now provides some exhilarating warm weather attractions to keep guests coming back all year long. Amongst those diversified activities are gondola rides, canopy tours, a variety of ropes courses, tubing on the water, and a mountain roller coaster that can definitely provide an unexpected adrenaline rush. But perhaps the biggest thrill of all can be found on the resort's awesome Blue Streak zip line, which is amongst the longest and fastest in the U.S.

Adrenaline Rush

You'll get a spectacular view of Lake Tahoe while flying down the zip line at Heavenly Mountain. The resort claims the Blue Streak stretches for more than 3,300-feet in length, which is an impressive distance for sure. Be prepared for a fast, steep descent because the 525-foot vertical drop matches that of the Space Needle in Seattle, allowing riders to hit breakneck speeds on the way down. In fact, Heavenly claims that riders can reach speeds in excess of 50 mph during their descent. The zip line is open year-round, although it is a lot more comfortable to ride during the summer months when the warmer temperatures make for a more enjoyable experience all around.

The nearby Heavenly Flyer zip line propels riders over treetops at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour as well, giving travelers a total ride time of about 80 seconds. In zip line terms that's practically an eternity. With two separate lines, you can even zip down side-by-side with a friend if you choose. At that speed, the world will seem like a blur passing by all around you, but the spectacular scenery near Lake Tahoe is still on perfect display. In fact, the Blue Streak is one of the best ways to take in the landscape, so keep your camera at the ready. Just be sure to hold on tight and capture your photos quickly, as the ride is a fast and furious one.

Other Heavenly Activities

Weather permitting, the Blue Streak zip line is open in the summer and winter. During the winter months, the zip line ride is offered at Adventure Peak, with other snowsport activities including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, tubing, sledding, and snow biking. In the summertime, you can fly down the Blue Streak zip line in between scaling a 25-foot-high multi-ability climbing wall or taking a hike on the trails that crisscross the resort grounds. Heavenly even offers a guided tour to the summit of the nearby mountains aboard an off-road vehicle for those who want a completely different vantage point of the surrounding area at a more relaxed pace.

Lift tickets and sightseeing tickets are sold separately and are required to take the Heavenly Gondola, and then the Tamarack Express chairlift, to reach the zip line Launching Pad. During the summer, zip line rides are offered as part of a package with either a Scenic Gondola ticket or the resorts Ultimate Adventure Pass as well, giving visitors a chance to save some cash and take in more of the resort's activities. For instance, The Adventure Pass also includes a ride on the mountain coaster, tubing on the water, and access to several ropes courses as well.
