Held each year in early June and organized by both the City of Yukon and the Chisholm Trail Historical Preservation Society, the Chisholm Trail Crawfish Festival in Yukon, Oklahoma is a family-oriented event that celebrates the history of the infamous Chisholm Trail with a fun Cajun flair through food, music, dance, games, crafts, contests, historical reenactments and more.

2017 Date & Times:

The 2017 Yukon Chisholm Trail Crawfish Festival will take place on Saturday, June 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. 

Location & Directions:

Kirkpatrick Family Farm in Yukon, Oklahoma is the site for the annual event. It is located one half mile north of the Interstate 40 exit 136. Free parking is available on the north side of the festival property at Yukon High School.

Food & Eating Contests:

Authentic, freshly-prepared Cajun fare takes center stage at this annual event. There are a number of dishes available, with costs up to $15, and the festival also features vendors offering a variety of other food types.

Take the food to the next level by competing in the pie eating contest at 1 p.m. or the crawfish eating contest at 2 p.m.

Live Music:

From noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday on the northern side of the grounds, listen to live Cajun music. There is a wooden dance floor in front of the stage where Cajun dance lessons will be offered at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 p.m.

America’s Favorite Wild West Show:

Presented by the Hanlon-Lees Action Theater, “America’s Favorite Wild West Show” is 40 minutes long and features colorful Old West characters on horseback and on the ground. The show is led by Kent Shelton as Buffalo Bill Cody, along with the Cowboy & Indian Congress.

Historical Reenactments:

A western theme town front is located on the southern side of the festival grounds, providing the backdrop for 19th century historical reenactments. Featured are an authentic chuck wagon and cook preparing meals over an open fire, blacksmiths, gunfighters, settlers, buffalo camps, a Boy Scouts camp, Civil War reenactments and a one room school house in session.

  • See primitive bow and arrow-making from the Oklahoma Self Bow Society
