Italy has many wineries that can be visited but it's sometimes easier to visit them on a guided tour. Here's a selection of guided winery visits that include transportation so you won't have to worry about drinking and driving. Taking a winery tour is also a good way to see some of the Italian countryside without having to rent a car.

Barolo Tour - King of Wines, Wine of Kings

This tour takes you to the Langhe wine region of Piedmont where Barolo wine, sometimes called the King of Wines and Wine of Kings, is produced. You'll visit a 13th-century castle where you'll taste wines, then you'll head to the charming village of Barolo where you'll visit wineries and another castle. Then you'll stop in the town of La Morra where you can eat lunch (lunch not included in price). Before heading to the truffle town of Alba for a guided tour and shopping there will be a stop at another winery.

Wine and Truffles - Piedmont

On this gourmet food and wine tour, you'll go truffle hunting in the hills near Monferrato, famous for white truffles. Following the truffle hunt you'll get to taste truffles, local wine, cheese, and salami. Next, you'll head to the medieval center of Asti where you'll have free time to explore the city, shop, and have lunch. In the afternoon you'll visit a producer of Barbera wine and have a wine tasting at a winery.

Tuscany Winery Tours - Chianti, Montepulciano, and More

Tuscany is one of Italy's most popular regions for winery visits. These eight tours cover wineries in several parts of Tuscany, from Montecarlo in the hills of Lucca to Chianti and south to Montepulciano and the coast. Most Tuscany winery tours include a visit to a wine town and lunch and pickups from hotels in Florence, Siena, or anywhere along the tour route.

Castelli Romani Wineries - The Hills of Rome

This tour takes you to the hills of the Castelli Romani outside Rome, dotted with lakes and castles. You'll visit a winery in Frascati and one near Grottaferrata where you'll taste wines and enjoy views of Rome and the Mediterranean Sea. You'll also have a short tour of the town of Frascati and lunch at an osteria. Pick-up and drop-off from your Rome hotel or a hotel along the route is included.

Flavors of Vesuvius - With Visit to Pompeii

This tour starts with a visit to the archeological site of Pompeii, the ancient Roman city destroyed by an eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD. Then you'll visit a winery in Mount Vesuvius National Park, at the base of the volcano.  At the cantina, you'll visit the vineyards and olive groves, taste wine, and be served a lunch of traditional local dishes. Pick-up and return is available from hotels in Naples or anywhere on the Amalfi Coast.

Winery Visit in Montefalco - Umbria

The town of Montefalco, often called the balcony of Umbria, is home to Sagrantino di Montefalco wine. Archi-Wine Tour: When Architects Meet Winemakers in Umbria is a full day tour departing from either Perugia or Assisi. On this tour, you'll visit two wineries, have lunch in an enoteca in Montefalco, tour Montefalco and a medieval village nearby.

Veneto - The Land of Prosecco

Prosecco, the famous Italian sparkling wine, is produced in the Veneto region outside of Venice. You'll start with a visit to a 10th-century church to see its beautiful frescoes, stop to see a waterfall by an old mill, then visit a winery that produces Prosecco. A lunch of typical Veneto cuisine is served in a medieval castle. In the afternoon you'll visit an abbey and another Prosecco winery and take a drive along the scenic Strada del Prosecco. This tour departs from and returns to Vicenza, Verona or Venice.
