Where To Stay: The Best Hotels in Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Strip at Night

Deciding on a hotel in Las Vegas does not have to be a big deal unless you consider the success of your vacation. The Las Vegas hotel is the epicenter of the action. This is where you meet. The hotel is where the party starts and ends and if you are lucky it is where the vacation becomes memorable. Don't skimp on the price if you don't have to and make sure that your decision-making is based on being very practical and honest with yourself. Do you need great bars? Do you need a good pool? Do you need a sports book? Answer questions and then look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself just how bad you want to be.

When you begin your search for a Las Vegas hotel you'll soon find that the possibilities seem endless and the options might drive you crazy. No need to worry, I've stayed in all the Las Vegas hotels and I can help.

It can be tough to choose just one hotel to be considered the best in Las Vegas because with so much to do and see you can imagine that all types of hotels exist. So, I'll tell you that I have a few favorites and they usually exist on my list of favorites simply because I have different moods and different approaches to Las Vegas.

Where To Stay: Family Friendly Hotels in Las Vegas

Each of these hotels offers qualities that can help create a family-friendly Las Vegas vacation. Generally, I would stay away from Downtown Las Vegas Hotels for kids as there is much less to entertain the children. Remember, Las Vegas is an adult playground so you might come in contact with smokers, drinkers and scantily clad party goers.

I'm a fan of the Flamingo Las Vegas for an inexpensive hotel in Las Vegas and a place for kids to have fun. The pool has a few slides and there are flamingos running around right outside the buffet. The food options are good and the mid-strip location is also a plus if you want to be mobile with the kids.

Other Hotels in Las Vegas that are good for families:
    MGM Grand Las Vegas
    Excalibur Las Vegas
    Circus Circus
    New York/New York

Where To Stay: Non-Gaming Hotels in Las Vegas

It sounds funny to think about Las Vegas with non-gaming hotels but there are far more than you think. I have included just those that are somewhat associated with a hotel with a casino. Yes, I understand that is arbitrary but I figure that if you are seeking a vacation without gambling you still want the restaurants, the shows, and the nightlife.

Consider Vdara if you are mixing business with pleasure. Choose Trump International if you want a good deal, large rooms and you don't care about the political implications when your friends know where you stayed. MGM Signature mixes the fun of Las Vegas with an off-strip property vibe. Palms Place is really just a gateway to an all-out party even though it is off the strip.

Where To Stay: Budget Conscious Hotels in Las Vegas

Yes, you can have a Las Vegas vacation without spending too much money. You can also have a decent budget vacation and not be forced into some bad, old, stinky, motel room off the strip. As competition on the Las Vegas strip intensifies hotels have to lower prices and renovate their property, because of that some hotels in Las Vegas have received tremendous facelifts and are the places to be.

Stay at the Tropicana Hotel or the Stratosphere Tower and you will see exactly what I'm talking about. You get renovated rooms for a discounted price and food options and entertainment idea that cost far less than elsewhere on the strip. You can have a cheap vacation in Las Vegas, you just have to do a little research.

    • Encore
    • Venetian
    • Palazzo
    • The Signature at MGM
    • Planet Hollywood Westgate Towers

Where To Stay: Hotels in Las Vegas That Are Really Motels

This list is small, it really could be bulging as there are so many motels in Las Vegas. You really should know that plenty of these places have crusty carpet, mildew in the showers and some pretty lumpy mattresses. They tend to be populated by a different brand of traveler and can look fairly sketchy.

Yes, there are some good motels in Las Vegas and they can be very reasonably priced, just know that I warned you.

Where To Stay: Downtown Las Vegas Hotels

If you opt for a Downtown Las Vegas Hotel you usually will get a better price although your options are limited to those properties that are in the area. You can take a bus or a taxi to the strip and burn some of the money you did save.

If you are strictly gambling this does seem like a good idea since table limits are lower in Downtown Las Vegas.

Where To Stay: Off The Strip Hotels

    The Palms Hotel

Plenty of hotels exist off the strip and if you want to get away from the craziness that is found on the Las Vegas strip you'll have some decent options.
