Located just 55 miles south of Florida, the Westin Grand Bahama Island Our Lucaya Resort sits on 7.5 acres of sandy beach. The 740 guest rooms and suites are furnished with the Westin’s signature Heavenly Bed® and Heavenly Bath® and they hug the pristine beaches and turquoise ocean that are the signature of Grand Bahama Island.

The $450 million, 372-acre resort is one of my personal favorite destinations.

To start with, I love the Bahamas. To find a resort of this caliber on Grand Bahama Island is a bonus indeed. The Westin Grand Bahama Island Our Lucaya features the largest resort beach in The Bahamas and it's only 55 miles east of Miami, 35 minutes via air from Florida and less than two-and-a half hours from New York. Ad two of the finest championship golf courses in the Caribbean and you are rare golfing destination with all the luxury you could desire.

Our Lucaya Lucayan Course

At 6,824-yards Dick Wilson's 1962 design with tree-lined doglegs and elevated greens is a rare treat. It's also home to one of only two Butch Harmon Schools of Golf in the world.

Our Lucaya Reef Course

Robert Trent Jones, Jr. new exactly what he was doing when he laid out the 6,920-yard Reef Course, he put water in play on 13 holes.. It was the first Bahamian course to open since 1969.

Senses Spa & Fitness Center

Island-inspired signature treatments to slim, soften, detoxify, purify or polish such as "peace", "relief" and "joy" -- with native elements and ingredients are the feartures of this 25,000 sq.

ft. spa system. But there’s more more: Water treatments include submerged massages, rain massages and hydro baths in seaweed; wow.

It’s all there: “after an early morning round of golf on one of the two magnificent resort courses – The Reef or The Lucayan – you can bask throughout the afternoon in the sun, and then round it all off with a stroll along the more than three miles of white sandy beach as you watch the moon rise as the cool, evening breezes blow gently in off the ocean.” I love that, and with three pools, three different surfaces of tennis courts (clay, composition and grass), more than three miles of sandy beach, and the Isle of Capri Casino, the Westin Grand Bahama Island Our Lucaya Resort is the ideal spot to spend time away from it all.

And if at times it seems a little too much for you, you can take time out from the shopping, gambling, swimming, water sports and so on, to reinvigorate yourself in the Senses Spa and Fitness Center.

If you’re visiting Grand Bahama as a family, The Westin Kids Club offers a variety of fun and exciting activities to keep the youngsters entertained, too.

Then, of course, there are the restaurants – great, glass window affairs that offer spectacular views of the ocean, and a choice of every kind of cuisine from burgers to fine dining.

The Westin shares the complex with its sister resort, the Sheraton Grand Bahama Island Our Lucaya Resort, which also offers Westin guests full access to combined resort facilities and activities. If that isn’t enough, Port Lucaya Market Place is a short walk across the street and you can explore the surrounding town or visit local shops and restaurants.

The Westin and Sheraton Our Lucaya Beach and Golf Resort offers, perhaps, the ultimate Golf in the Bahamas family vacation.

How to Get There:

The Islands of the Bahamas are served by two international airports: Nassau International Airport and Grand Bahama International Airport.

These two airports are served by almost all of the US domestic airlines as well as airlines from Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe.

Travel to the Out Islands of the Bahamas is achieved via Bahamasair. Bahamasair offers regular scheduled service to the Abacos, Exumas, and most of the smaller inhabited islands.

Travel to the Abacos and The Exumas can also be achieved via the Fast Ferry from Potter’s Cay in Nassau – daily scheduled service is available. This is a great way to visit the Out Island. I highly recommend it.

Rental cars are readily available at both international airports.

I truly hope that you enjoy your visit to the Bahamas as much as I always have.

Okay, so that's The Westin Grand Bahama Island Our Lucaya, but you may be looking for something a little more exotic. If so  you might need to look to new horizons, like these: Scotland, Florida, the American SouthwestBermuda, all over the Caribbean and Mexico and many more.
