Where to Find Water Slides and Roller Coasters in the State

There are not a lot of water parks or amusement parks in West Virginia. Sorry. If you want to find parks with a bunch of water slides and roller coasters, you'll have to travel outside of the state. But there are a few small places that offer some fun, which are listed below.

There used to be a couple more parks in West Virginia, but like many early 20th-century amusement centers, they have long since closed. For example, Luna Park opened around 1912 in Charleston and offered the Royal Giant Dips coaster. There used to be many places called Luna Park in honor of the original Luna Park at Coney Island in New York City. Terrapin Park in Parkersburg opened around the same time as West Virginia's Luna Park. It too offered a single wooden coaster, although its thrill machine had the intriguing name, Dazy Dazier Dip Coaster.

Rock Springs Park in Chester opened earlier than the previous two West Virginia parks and lasted longer. Its Cyclone coaster operated from 1927 until the park closed in 1970.

The following water parks and amusement parks are open. They are listed alphabetically.

Camden Park
Amusement park

The state's major amusement park is relatively small. The classic trolley park dates back to 1903. It offers four roller coasters, including the Big Dipper, which opened in 1958. In 2016, it opened the Slingshot, a steel coaster with spinning cars. Other attractions include a ride-through haunted house, a log flume, and a Tilt-A-Wjirl.
