West Hollywood Hotels

The Coolest Hotels in West Hollywood, CA

For a city of less than four square miles, West Hollywood has more than its fair share of cool hotels. Some are modern and trendy, while others are architecturally or culturally interesting. Many of the hotels are in former apartment buildings, and most of them have rooftop pools. West Hollywood hotels are convenient to Hollywood, Beverly Hills and the Fairfax/Mid-Wilshire area, including CBS Television City, the LA Farmers Market and The Grove.

Here are some of my favorite West Hollywood Hotels and what I like about them.

I love The London West Hollywood because it has a classy and elegant feel. The rooftop pool and restaurant is a great place for a relaxing lunch.

The Mondrian always reminds me of Alice falling through the rabbit hole with its giant doors facing Sunset Blvd and its magic mirrors in every room.

The Andaz was the site of some crazy rock n' roll history during the years it was known as the Riot House or the Riot Hyatt. These days, it's more a scene for hipsters, although you may catch your favorite metal band doing an acoustic set in RH Restaurant.

The Sunset Marquis is a combination of former homes and an apartment building that now host A-list actors and rockers in private villas. The underground recording studio is a particular draw. The walls are lined with autographed portraits of the famous musicians who have stayed here.

The Sunset Tower is a historic Art Deco hotel on the Sunset Strip that was once home to a who's who of Hollywood celebrities from Frank Sinatra, John Wayne and Marilyn Monroe to Iggy Pop. Bugsy Siegel's former apartment is now the Tower Bar, winner of the 2012 LA Travel Readers' Choice Award for Best LA A-List Bar or Club.

Le Parc Suite is a cute all suite hotel in a former apartment complex on a side street in West Hollywood. All rooms have a kitchen and living room. It's a great hotel for families, although the rooftop pool is tiny.

Palihouse Holloway Hotel has rooms designed to resemble New York loft apartments. The lobby bar is party central for locals and travelers, so its definitely not the place to plan on an early night.

    Chateau Marmont

Chateau Marmont is not technically in West Hollywood, but everyone thinks it is, so I'm including it here. It's actually just the other side of the city limits in Hollywood, just off the Sunset Strip. This favorite celeb sighting destination is perhaps best known as the location where John Belushi died in 1982. It's not the most luxurious hotel in the neighborhood, and it's not known for overly friendly service, but this 1929 hotel, modeled after a French chateau, has seen more Hollywood secrets than most, and its storied history still draws the curious.

    The Standard Hollywood

The Standard Hollywood is another party hotel in West Hollywood with a loud bar scene around the pool which carries to the rooms. Like the Standard Downtown, rooms have a 60s retro feel with laminate surfaces and bean bag chairs.
