Though the islands of Turks and Caicos are famously temperate and sunny year-round, the climate does become rainier during the wet season of the summer and fall. During the wet season, the hurricane season begins in June and lasts through November. Located in the northern Caribbean Sea, Turks and Caicos is part of the Lucayan Archipelago, alongside the Bahamas. As a result, the island nation doesn’t become swelteringly hot during the summertime (unlike other Caribbean islands located further south)—the daily average temperature in Turks and Caicos is 75 F (24 C) in the winter and 82 F (28 C) in the summer. Read on for the ultimate guide to the weather and climate in Turks and Caicos.

Hurricane Season in Turks and Caicos

Turks and Caicos's hurricane season begins in June and lasts until November, with the highest likelihood of hurricanes and tropical storms occurring in August, September, and October. Although hurricanes are relatively rare in Turks and Caicos—a hurricane is estimated to hit the islands only once every seven years directly—concerned travelers visiting the island nation during this time should consider purchasing travel insurance—and there is even a hurricane app available via the Red Cross. Even if a hurricane doesn’t occur during the wet season, it is still the year's rainiest period—with September having the highest average annual rainfall of 3.7 inches. However, there are benefits to visiting during this season, as travelers will find fewer crowds on the gorgeous beaches and discover travel costs and hotel fare greatly diminished compared to the high season of the winter months.
