About TripSavvy Fact-Checking Jillian Dara Share Pin Email TripSavvy / Ellen Lindner Known for its beautiful beaches, striking rock formations, and fabulous resorts, Los Cabos is also blessed with great weather almost year-round. The weather tends to be warm to hot throughout the year and is most comfortable between the months of November and May. Summer and early Fall can be hot, and most rain falls during this time of year, which also coincides with hurricane season. Fast Climate Facts Hottest Month: July (94 degrees F / 35 degrees C) Coldest Month: January (72 degrees F / 22 degrees C) Wettest Month: September (4.6 inches) Windiest Month: May (10.4 mph) Warmest Water Temps: September (84 degrees F / 29 degrees C) Rainy Season and Hurricanes Rainy season in Los Cabos lasts from July to October, and Mexico's hurricane season also falls during the same time of year. Most of the city's rain falls in September, but there is an average of four rainy days in the month and about 4.5 inches of rain. During rainy season it feels more humid and is quite hot. Hurricanes seldom hit Los Cabos, but when they do, it's usually between August and October. It’s very unlikely that a hurricane will strike, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’ll be traveling during that time of year. Hurricane Odile hit the area in September 2014 and caused extensive damage. If you visit during hurricane season, occupancy rates at hotels will be lower than during the high season, allowing for a peaceful getaway with fewer crowds. There are often good travel deals to be found as well, from discounts to room upgrades. Keep an eye on the weather forecasts before your trip so you’ll be aware of any tropical storms developing in the vicinity and can adjust your plans if necessary. Also, make sure to purchase travel insurance so you’ll be reimbursed in the event you need to cancel your trip. Spring in Los Cabos The weather heats up in Los Cabos during the springtime. In March, temperatures may reach 80 degrees F (27 degrees C), and by May, high temperatures are in the upper 80s Fahrenheit (31 degrees C) with lows in the low 60s Fahrenheit (16 degrees C). This is the driest time of year, with little to no rain during the months of March, April, and May. It can still be crowded as a lot of Mexican families travel during the Easter holidays (Mexican schoolchildren get two weeks off from school), and of course, there are travelers who come specifically for spring break and the party scene. You can avoid the spring break crowds and have a tranquil vacation even during this time of year. San Jose del Cabo tends to be quieter than Cabo San Lucas, so if you’re looking for a spring break without the crowds, look for a hotel and plan the majority of your activities in that area. What to pack: Bring your beachwear and clothes for hot weather such as shorts, tank tops, and T-shirts, as well as a few more formal outfits for evenings out. Pack a light jacket, sweater, or wrap for spaces with air conditioning. Of course, sunscreen should go in your suitcase (although you can buy some in Cabo should you forget). Average Temperatures by Month March: 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) April: 79 degrees F (26 degrees C) May: 81 degrees F (27 degrees C) Summer in Los Cabos Summers in Los Cabos tend to be hot and humid. June offers the clearest skies, almost entirely without clouds until towards the end of the month, though the air can feel a bit muggy. June is still mainly pleasant, but by July the weather may begin to feel hot and humid. There are more cloudy days, but rainfall is infrequent. There is a chance of tropical storms and hurricanes during the summer. There is one big advantage of summertime travel. Since the weather may not be as pleasant at this time of year, there are generally fewer tourists so you'll have fewer crowds and you may encounter some great deals. What to pack: Besides warm weather clothing and beachwear, bring a light rain jacket just in case. It’s also a good idea to throw some sunscreen and insect repellent in your suitcase since you’re likely to still get some sun exposure, and there may be more mosquitoes this time of year. Average Temperatures by Month June: 80 degrees F (27 degrees C) July: 84 degrees F (29 degrees C) August: 85 degrees F (29 degrees C) Fall in Los Cabos September is the month with the most rain in Los Cabos, although it’s still not much, with an average of only four rainy days during the month. October can still be quite hot, with high temperatures that may reach 90 degrees F (32 degrees C), and lows in the mid-70s Fahrenheit (24 degrees C). September and October are the months with a statistically higher chance of tropical storms and hurricanes. By November the weather is much more pleasant and high season activities, like the weekly San Jose del Cabo Art Walk, resume. This is also a good time to visit if you would like to go swimming with whale sharks which are present in the Sea of Cortez between October and April. What to pack: Don't forget to pack a light sweater as the temperature can get cooler in the evenings, and bring something to protect you from the rain. Average Temperatures by Month September: 84 degrees F (29 degrees C) October: 79 degrees F (26 degrees C) November: 73 degrees F (23 degrees C) Winter in Los Cabos The weather is generally mild in the winter in Los Cabos. This is peak travel season as many folks from farther north escape cold winters for the sunny skies and warm beaches. The temperatures are quite comfortable, though cooler than the rest of the year, with highs in the mid-70s Fahrenheit (24 degrees C) but dipping to the low 60s Fahrenheit (16 degrees C) during the night. Since the difference in temperature between day and night may be quite significant, it’s a good idea to carry a sweater for evenings out. What to pack: Bring along a jacket or sweater for cool evenings and nights. Daytime is still warm, so bring along your swimsuit and other beach necessities, and sunscreen is a necessity throughout the year, so don't leave it behind!
