When is the best time to buy an airline ticket?

For domestic flights, the rule of thumb is usually the further out you book, the cheaper the fare.  Traveling during peak times including Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter/spring break, Memorial Day/Labor Day weekends and the Fourth of July tends to be more expensive. And early morning flights and flights booked on Tuesdays and Wednesdays tend to be cheaper. Also, connecting flights tend to be cheaper than nonstop ones.

Cheapair.com looked at fares for more than 1.2 million trips in 2015 from the U.S. to 74 popular international destinations. It found that the best fares to Europe can be found at 120 days out, and Asian destinations come in at 160 days from travel dates.
