YAY! YAY! YAY! The Waterfront Independence Festival is back in full swing!!!

Here are some FAQs from the website:

Where does the festival take place?

The Louisville Orchestra Waterfront Celebration is held on the Great Lawn in Louisville Waterfront Park. In 2016, the event is on July 3. 

Where can I park?

Paid vehicle parking is available in the Witherspoon and Waterside garages and in the surface lot adjacent to Louisville Slugger Field.

Parking is also available along River Road and neighboring streets. Additional surface lots, parking garages, and on-street parking are available south of Main Street.


Can I ride my bicycle to the festival?

Yes! Spectators are encouraged to ride their bicycles to the event to help reduce our carbon footprint!

Where can I park my bicycle?

Bicycle parking will be available for festival attendees who want to ride their bikes instead of driving to the event. This parking is located on the Great Lawn near the main entrance to the Festival on Witherspoon Street. There is no charge for the service.

What time is the festival?

The festival opens at 5:00 p.m. Family activities take place from 5:00-8:15 p.m. Concessions and children's activities open at 5:00 p.m. Performance times vary; fireworks will take place at approximately 10 p.m. The concert will feature patriotic favorites.

The fireworks display is sponsored by the Louisville Bats and will be the end of the evening, the display will be accompanied by the Louisville Orchestra.

What can I bring?

All you need to bring is yourself and your family! But if you want some comforts or home, lawn chairs, blankets, unopened bottled water, 32 oz.

or smaller refillable plastic water bottle, umbrellas, and sunscreen are allowed.

What can I NOT bring?

The following are prohibited items: Outside food and alcohol, glass, coolers, cans, other bottles, pets, tents or canopies, amplification devices, signage larger than 24" square, grills, skateboards and weapons.

Will there be water to drink at the event?

Yes, The Louisville Water Company will provide free cold water. Refillable plastic water bottles that are BPA free and dishwasher safe will be available for purchase for $2, or you can bring your own refillable bottle (just remember, no glass!). Anyone attending the festival can refill their bottles as many times as they like for free. This saves disposable plastic water bottle waste and will save you money. Of course, if you would rather purchase drinks, bottled water and soft drinks will be available for purchase from vendors.

Will there be activities for kids?

Yes. And as a bonus, all of the children's activities are absolutely FREE.​What are the Children's activities?

For 2016, "families are encouraged to bring one recyclable item from home (example: a plastic water bottle), which will be transformed into a keepsake musical instrument.

Children will later be invited to use their newly-made musical instruments to join in with the Louisville Orchestra as part of the Fifth Third Landfill Orchestra. Other family activities will be provided by the Kentucky Science Center, Kentucky Museum of Arts and Craft, Friends of the Waterfront, WUOL’s Summer Listening Program, The Boys and Girls Club of Kentuckiana, and the Jug Band Jubilee, among others. These activities will occur from 5-8 p.m.

Will there be fireworks?
Yes, there will be fireworks at around 10 p.m.

What happens if it rains? Will there be a rain date?

The event planning committee will make a decision as to whether the event must be postponed to a rain date in the case of bad weather. Every effort will be made to ensure the event takes place rain or shine. In the case of inclement weather, an updated schedule of rain events will be made via social media and the schedule of some performances may vary as needed.
