Viking Njord in Durnstein, Austria
Longships of Viking River Cruises Sail the Great Rivers of Europe
The Viking Njord is one of the four Longships christened by Viking River Cruises in 2012. The river cruise line christened 10 more Longships in 2013 and plans to launch a dozen more in 2014, so this class of ship will ultimately have the largest number of "sisters" sailing European rivers and waterways.
The Viking Njord and the other Longships have clean, classic Scandinavian design and decor. These photos, which were taken on a Danube River Christmas market cruise from Budapest to Passau, provide a nice overview of the Viking Njord.
Veranda Cabin - Category A
Veranda cabin #331, one of 95 cabins and suites on the Viking Njord. In this photo, the glass in the bathroom/shower has been turned to privacy (or translucent).
The previous photo had the privacy button in the glass bathroom turned on, this one has the light off. The translucent glass provides excellent privacy without a claustrophobic feeling.
Veranda Cabin with Queen Sized Bed Setup
The beds in all the cabins and suites can be configured as twin beds or queen-sized,
Veranda Suite Sitting Area
The Category AA veranda suites on the Viking Njord have three rooms--a sitting room, bedroom, and bathroom.
Veranda Suite Bedroom
The bedroom in a Viking Njord veranda suite is a completely separate room from the sitting area. It has a nice French balcny door, which is a good complement to the full balcony off the sitting area.
Veranda Suite Bathroom
The bathroom in the Veranda Suite (category AA) have a large shower.
Views from the Restaurant
Guests don't have to sacrifice their views of the marvelous river scenery to dine on the Viking Njord. The restaurant has terrific views!
Austrian Lunch in the Observation Lounge
While sailing from Durnstein to Melk, Austria on the Viking Njord, we all enjoyed a "taste of Austria" and some good Austrian beer.
Restaurant Buffet Area
Usually this buffet area in the Viking Njord restaurant is filled with delicious options for breakfast or lunch. I took this photo while they were just starting to set up!
Reception Area Lighting
The Viking Njord reception is filled with skylights and windows, making the whole area warm and welcoming.
The Internet is free on Viking River Cruises, and the Viking Njord has these two public computers available for guest use. Many guests use their own notebooks or electronic tablets to access the Internet, so there usually wasn't a wait to use the computers on our cruise.
Coffee and Snack Bar
Coffee and tea is available 24 hours a day on the Viking Njord. Snacks are also often available.
Aquavit Terrace Sunroom
The Aquavit Terrace also has this indoor sunroom seating area, which was very popular on our cold-weather Christmas market cruise.
View of Aquavit Terrace Outdoor Dining Area
This outdoor dining area is a popular place on warm-weather cruises. Alas, it was too cold to enjoy on our Christmas market cruise.
The open air Aquavit Terrace is a great place to sit or to dine, weather permitting.
