The Viking Forseti is one of Viking River Cruises Longships and was launched in 2012. The river vessel currently sails the Garonne, Dordogne, and Gironde Rivers near Bordeaux, France on an 8-day itinerary called "Châteaux, Rivers, and Wine".
All the Viking Longships are almost identical in configuration, but have slight differences in decor. However, they share a simple, Scandinavian look on the inside, an off-center hallway in the cabin area, and a square bow. The cabins and suites on the Viking Forseti are like the staterooms on the other Longships.
Let's take a photo tour and learn more about the Viking Forseti.
All the Viking Longships have a distinctive square bow like the Viking Forseti. This gives the ships more outdoor seating area, which is particularly important on itineraries with low bridges since guests cannot sit on the top deck while passing under a low bridge.
Outdoor Seating on the Aquavit Terrace
Having breakfast, lunch, or drinks outside on the Aquavit Terrace of the Viking Forseti is a pleasant way to spend time on a river cruise. During inclement weather, guests can move inside to the glass-enclosed seating area.
Indoor Seating on the Aquavit Terrace
The Aquavit Terrace has both indoor and outdoor seating. Its bow location provides great views of the passing river scenery. Guests can enjoy a light breakfast, lunch, or just drinks in this glass-enclosed area or move outside for the fresh air. Meals on the Viking Forseti are also served in the main Restaurant, which is forward on deck 2.
Lounge Seating on the Aquavit Terrace
In addition to the indoor and outdoor tables, the Aquavit Terrace on the Viking Forseti also has this nice indoor lounge area.
The Restaurant on the Viking Forseti has round and rectangular tables with open seating at all meals. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in this venue. Breakfast and lunch feature both buffet and menu dining, while dinner is served from a menu. All the meals we had on the Viking Forseti were delicious and were multi-course dining experiences featuring traditional American and Continental favorites and local specialties from the Bordeaux region of France.
The galley can accommodate special dietary needs. Guests need to notify the cruise line when booking the cruise and meet with the chef once onboard.

Restaurants on most river ships like the Viking Forseti have their Restaurant near the water level and feature large windows. Therefore, diners can enjoy great views during meal time.

The Viking Forseti has a large, comfortable Observation Lounge just aft of the Aquavit Lounge on deck 3. This lounge is the hub of the ship, with many activities, entertainment, and cocktail parties scheduled here.
