Veterans Day began in 1919 (then called Armistice Day) and marked the one-year anniversary of the end of hostilities in World War I. In 1954, the day was officially renamed Veterans Day and is a time to honor all U.S. veterans. The national holiday takes place every November 11. In 2017, it falls on a Saturday. Expect certain businesses and services to be closed this day.
