REVIEW: Vdara Hotel & Spa, Las Vegas

A Quiet Spa Retreat On The Las Vegas Strip

Vdara Hotel & Spa is one of the smaller, quieter spas on the Las Vegas Strip, and that's why I love it. Vdara is part of the $8.5 billion CityCenter complex, but the all-suite hotel and spa are both serene.First, there's no casino at Vdara Hotel & Spa and just one restaurant called Silk Road and one bar. (If you want more excitement, ARIA Resort & Casino is just across the street.) Vdara is mid-sized for Vegas, with 1,495-suites in one 57-story tower, and you don't have to walk forever to get somewhere.

And Vdara's rooms are sleek, modern, and comfortable and affordable. Best of all for people who a longer stay, they have kitchens and a washer/dryer.

Vdara Spa Is Green

The 18,000 sq. ft. spa, Vdara Health & Beauty, is human-scaled with just 11 treatment rooms and lots of grounding natural elements. I especially loved all the natural elements in Vdara Spa -- the two-story string fountain behind the front desk, the serene women's lounge (with the TV tuned to a fish tank) and the co-ed meditation lounge, with a bubbling stone fountain and a chandelier of clear glass spheres. Vdara is also the first Las Vegas spa in the Green Spa Network.

I chose an Arnica Muscle Repair Massage, an expertly delivered sports massage with one of my favorite massage oils, Naturopathica's Arnica Bath and Body Oil (compare prices). I had an incredible massage therapist, Jasmin Gonzalez, who told me "I believe massage is an art form. No two of my massages are alike." She truly is an artist, and I would come see her regularly if I lived in Las Vegas.

Vdara Spa Is Affordable

Vdara is affordable for a hotel spa, too. A 60-minute specialty massage (using Naturopathica oils) is $140, while a Swedish massage is $130. Facials use Naturopathica, Peter Thomas Roth, or Dr. Obagi's ZO Skin Health. Special body treatments by Red Flower are $250 for ninety minutes. You can also get massage and body treatments using the Thai aromatherapy line called Akhassa at six outdoor Spa Cabanas by the Sky Pool& Lounge on the third floor.

I was impressed by the warmth of the staff at every step of the way. Afterwards I took some time to relax in the ladies lounge, which had a redwood sauna, eucalyptus steam room, a soaking tub with waterfall and two tepidarium chairs (heated lounge chairs made of tile). The only thing Vdara Spa lacks is bling factor. But that's why I like it! Ultimately spas are a matter of taste, and a good fit with the therapist. And Vdara matches me perfectly.
