Vancouver's Punjabi Market district--also known as Little India--is a cultural and commercial focal point for Vancouver's South Asian community and one of the city's most unique shopping centers.
The Punjabi Market is the perfect place to shop for fabric, Indian fashion and jewelry, gifts, religious murti, and Indian cooking utensils and ingredients.
It's also a great place to have your eyebrows threaded (at Kohli's Mastercuts).
Located in the south Vancouver Sunset neighborhood, Punjabi Market (Little India) stretches along Main Street from 48th Avenue to 51st Avenue. It's easy to get to by bus or by car, and there's plenty of free street parking for drivers--a rarity in Vancouver!
Accessorize on a Budget at Palika Gift House & Bazaar
Start your Punjabi Market shopping tour at 48th Avenue and Main Street and head south, where you'll find the packed-to-the-rafters Palika Gift House & Bazaar, just south of 49th Avenue.
For cheap, fun and bountiful costume jewelry, shoes, bags, children's clothes and wedding accessories, this is the place to shop.
Just a few doors south of Palika you'll find 22-karat gold jewelers for more high-end jewelry buys.
Shop for South Asian Fashion, Sarees & Lehengas
While many of the bigger fashion shops have moved to Surrey, Vancouver's Punjabi Market district still has several inexpensive and mid-range fashion boutiques to explore, including Sunny's Bridal, Rani Fashions & Fabrics, and Sahdne Saree House. (The whole district covers only two blocks, so it's easy to move from store to store.)
Get Indian Groceries at the Punjabi Food Centre
Just north of East-West Quality Wear is the Punjabi Food Centre.
This East Indian grocery has loads of lentils, beans, seasonings, and mixes for making your own Indian food at home, as well as ready-made Indian snacks like bhel mix and spiced moong dal.
Eat! All India Sweets & Restaurant
Shopping works up an appetite! End your day in Punjabi Market with a trip to All India Sweets & Restaurant, at the corner of 49th Avenue and Main.
All India Sweets is famous for its fabulous Indian desserts--perfect for a quick bite--and it's all-you-can-eat $11 vegetarian buffet.
