Valentine's Day in the Reno area is always on February 14, whatever day of the week that might be. Celebrating with our loved one can involve more than a Valentine's Day dinner - check these choices for that something extra. And if getting married on Valentine's Day is in your plans, we have places where you can make that happen, too.

Take Your Valentine to the Movies

Whether it's Valentine's Day or another occasion for romance, there is a romantic restaurant in the Reno area to help set the mood. A Note-Able Evening of Romance

Saturday, February 8, 2014, 7:30 p.m. The 10th annual Note-Able Evening of Romance: A Black and White Gala will be at the downtown Reno Ballroom. You are encouraged to wear black and white attire in keeping with this year's theme. The event will include performances by Cami Thompson, the Reno Jazz Orchestra, and The Note-Ables. We will feature the best music from the past 10 years of the event, including big band hits, music from the Roaring 20s, the Rat Pack, and Broadway. Tickets, which include hors d'oeuvres from local restaurants, desserts, and champagne, are $45 in advance, $50 at the door, $400 for a table of ten. Tickets are available online or by calling (775) 324-5521. All proceeds benefit music therapy programs and services of Note-Able Music Therapy Services. The downtown Reno Ballroom is located at 401 N. Center Street.

History in the Buff: A Scavenger Hunt for Adults

Friday, February 14, 2014, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This Valentine’s Day, come to the May Museum at the Wilbur D. May Center in Reno for a grown-up twist on the scavenger hunt. Armed with wine, couples will follow clues and search for risqué artifacts and works of art hidden in plain sight in the Museum's collection. From fertility gods to naughty cherubs – try not to blush during this stimulating (and educational) search for nudes. The cost is $15 per person and includes wine and a red rose. Valentine's Pajama Crawl

Saturday, February 15, 2014, 7:30 p.m. The first ever Valentine's Pajama Crawl is an adult drinking event. As the name implies, the crawl involves going from bar to bar (there are over 16 involved), drinking, and being dressed up in your pajamas or nightie while crawling. It's $5 to join the Valentine's Pajama Crawl. You get a commemorative cup, map of the crawl, and drink specials at participating bars. You start crawling and buy your cup at The Waterfall, 134 W. 2nd Street in Reno. Pre-sale cups are available at Junkee Clothing Exchange. If you want to wear something other than what you usually hit the sack in, you can get costumes from local costume shops and vintage clothing stores. Proceeds benefit local charities.

Shadow Box Valentines at The Discovery

February 8, 9, 12, 2014. Come to the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum (The Discovery) on one of these days to make a clever Valentine's shadow box filled with trinkets and special sentiments for your loved one. This activity is recommended for ages 6 and older. The cost to participate is $3 for museum members, $5 for non-members (this is in addition to museum admission). Start times are 11:30 a.m. on February 8, 1 p.m. on February 9, and 6 p.m. on February 12. You can purchase tickets by calling (775) 786-1000 or buy online by visiting the Discovery calendar of events and clicking on the link by the date you'd like to attend. The Discovery is at 490 S. Center Street in Reno.

Valentine's Day Pool Party in Sparks

The Alf Sorensen Community Center pool in Sparks will be a colorful shade of pink water on February 14 for a special Valentine's Day Pool Party. Children ages 7 to 12 can enjoy an evening of swimming, games, food and fun. Swimming will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., followed by pizza and soft drinks at 9:15 p.m. The event ends at 11 p.m. Cost is $12 or $10 for Sparks residents.

To register for the Valentine's Day Pool Party, call the Sparks Parks and Recreation Department at (775) 353-2385. Financial assistance is available for those who cannot otherwise participate due to financial limitations. Early registration is advised as space is limited. The Alf Sorensen Community Center is located at 1400 Baring Boulevard.

Lock Your Love in Lovelock

On Valentine's Day, February 14, you can symbolically "lock your love" at Lovers Lock Plaza in Lovelock, NV, home to the only love-locking "eternal" chain in the United States. At 1 p.m., you can be part of the annual Lovers Lock Plaza wedding and vow renewal ceremony. Afterward, you can lock your love to the chain as part of this ancient Chinese custom. The wedding part of the celebration is Christian-based and is a real ceremony. If you are going to actually get hitched, you'll need a Nevada marriage license. Since 2006, a variety of over 1,500 lovers have locked their love in Lovelock at Lovers Lock Plaza.

This will be the 9th Annual Lover's Aloft Weekend in Lovelock. There will be a whole schedule of events from February 13 through 17, 2014. In addition to what goes on in Lover's Lock Plaza, other highlights will include a hot air balloon launch each morning and the Murder Mystery Dinner on Saturday, February 15.

Paddlewheeler Boat Rides at Lake Tahoe

A fun activity for Valentine's Day is a cruise and dinner aboard one of the two paddlewheelers that ply the waters of Lake Tahoe. Check out "Lake Tahoe Paddlewheeler Cruises" for information about booking passage on either the M.S. Dixie II out of Zephyr Cove or the Tahoe Queen sailing from South Lake Tahoe.
