Share a Laugh
You’ve probably heard that laughter is the best medicine, but it can also be a powerful aphrodisiac. For standup comedy, Cap City Comedy is the premiere venue in town, but there’s actually a quiet comedy revolution happening all over town. In south Austin, there’s the upstart Institution Theater, which offers low-priced and sometimes free improv, sketch and standup shows. In north-central Austin, ColdTowne Theater offers edgy improv and a smattering of standup shows. On 6th Street, the Velveeta Room often features a mix of up-and-coming locals along with national-level rising stars. If wacky musical comedy is your thing, the venerated Esther’s Follies is right next door to the Velveeta Room.

Take a Hike
The peace and quiet of a natural setting can help to calm the mind and allow you to truly enjoy each other’s company without distractions. The easiest spot to access in central Austin is the Barton Creek Greenbelt. But if you’re willing to take a short drive, there are excellent natural hideaways all over town. The Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve in west Austin will give you the opportunity to spot (or hear) the endangered golden-cheeked warbler. Reimer’s Ranch is an ideal choice if you want to take a long hike or go mountain biking during your getaway. Drive just a little farther west, and you can enjoy the oddly beautiful pink-granite dome known as Enchanted Rock. The Native Americans thought the rock had mystical powers, so maybe it will work wonders with your love life.
