Sweetheart Happenings for Valentine's Day

Albuquerque has special Valentine events throughout the month of February. Meet to discuss romance novels, hear the music of love, or see what love looks like to the animals at the zoo. Find an event to celebrate the power of love and romance.

Valentine Cabaret
The New Mexico Gay Men's Chorus will have a Valentine cabaret that features solos, duets, ensembles and the full chorus singing romantic tunes.

Carnaval: Ticket to Paradise
Take a Carnaval tour as Frank Leto and the PANdemonium team up with the Odara Dance Ensemble for a celebration of Carnaval destinations.
When: February 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m.
Where: National Hispanic Cultural Center

Velo-tine Bike Tours
Join a professionally-guided tour along the Paseo del Bosque river trail. Routes, Rentals and Tours will give you a bike to tour the scenic bosque. Arrive at Casa Rodena for a wine tasting, Los Poblanos Historic Inn and organic farm for a tour, New Mexico Pinon Coffee for coffee, and eat delicious Rude Boy cookies. The ride takes 3.5 hours. Riders who participate in the wine tasting must be 21 or older with a valid ID.

Southwest Burlesque Showcase
The annual showcase brings together burlesque performers in the style of classic 40s and 50s burlesque, and is full of song, dance, and a bit of naughty fun.

For those 18 and older.

Chispa: Cascada de Flores
The theatrical concert celebrates Latin America's golden age of radio. See it at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
When: February 13 at 7 p.m.

Love Bugs
A special love bugs, adults-only event takes place at the Bugarium at the Botanic Garden. You'll have live bug encounters, appetizers from 6 - 7 and can have dinner at the Shark Reef Cafe. $30 for the BUGarium admission, talk with a zookeeper and appetizers, and $45 with dinner. Registration required.
When: February 13 at 6 p.m.

Cupid's Chase 5K Run
The Cupid's Chase run is a national 5K event that takes place in 24 cities, on the same day, at the same time. Proceeds benefit Community Options, which provides supports to people with disabilites. There will be giveaways and prizes, and of course, the chance to see balloons! Walkers are welcome.
When: February 13

Salsa Love Fest
The Salsa Love Fest features dance classes with visiting instructors, and dancing Saturday night. Have a romantic dinner and go to the historic El Rey Theatre downtown. There will be chocolate fountains, desserts, drink and a cash bars as well as an enormous dance floor. This is an 18+ event.

Singing Valentines
Awww....if you've ever considered serenading your valentine, but don't have the voice for it, then you might want to try sending a barbershop quartet to voice your heartfelt wishes.

Get two love songs, a long stemmed rose, a box of chocolates and a personalized valentine's card with this package. Your choice of singers includes men, or women.
When: February 13 or 14
Where: Delivered to your sweetheart at home, work, restaurant, wherever you like, in the greater ABQ area.
Cost: $60 for two love songs, chocolates, a long stemmed rose and a personalized card.

Valentine Tea
The St. James Tearoom will have a three course afternoon tea on Valentine's day, with roses, truffles, and a setting for romance.
When: February 13 and 14, seatings at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Valentine's Day at the Zoo
Celebrate Valentine's Day at the zoo, where you'll learn about species survival plans and the reproductive habits of animals. Animals include snow leopards, reticulated giraffes and koalas.


When: February 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Valentine's Enrichment
The zoo's animals will receive special Valentine's gifts and treats. See how the animals react and talk to the zookeeper, who will explain the importance of enrichment.
When: February 14 from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

That's A-Moray!
The adults-only tour at the Aquarium will look at the exotic and erotic behavior of aquatic animals. Enjoy appetizers and one adult beverage, and have dinner afterwards at the Shark Reef Cafe.
When: February 14 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Friends and Lovers Hot Air Balloon Rally
The first Valentine balloon event in Albuquerque was in 1976. This popular launch features up to 100 hot air balloons rising into the sky for two mornings over Valentine's Day weekend. Access to the park is from the northeast corner of Balloon Park. Free to watch/attend.
When: February 14 and 15, 7 a.m. launch, 6 a.m. registration

Sweetheart Run
This family favorite takes place at the Bosque School along the river. It's a flat and fast course, with a variety of run choices, from Kids' K to Sweetheart Couples teams.

Italian Film and Culture Festival
The Italian Film and Culture Festival features Italian films, food and culture. Who know amore like the Italians? There will be a program of Italian films and two special events, as well as dining for a cause.

Jesus Munoz Flamenco
Celebrate love in a Flamenco way. Munoz will perform flamenco at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. 
When: February 26 and 27 at 8 p.m.
