Coming to visit for the Kentucky Derby and looking for a luxurious place to stay? Have you already experienced Seelbach (on the list of National Historic Places, a favorite spot of Al Capone and rumored to be haunted) along with the Galt House (the place to stay over the holiday season as they host Christmas at the Galt House) so looking to stay somewhere new? Well you can, but you will have to wait.
There is a new development in the works...
Scheduled to open in 2018, a new luxury hotel/apartment complex/retail hub is coming to downtown Louisville. A block away from the convention center, at the corner of Liberty and 2nd, the hotel will be next to Fourth Street Live! and will feature food—both restaurants and a grocery store—and various lifestyle perks, such as a spa, an art gallery, a speakeasy and more.
Downtown Louisville is both a business and cultural hub of the city. It is a regional destination for visitors looking to spend a day visiting museums, couples looking for an evening on the town and every age group looking for music, theater or shows both day and night. Plus there is history to be explored, bourbon tours, walks over the Ohio River and more.

The new hotel project which is owned by Omni Hotels & Resorts, will cost $289 million in public and private funds.
The construction and development is part of a relationship between the city and Omni Hotels & Resorts. There is another company involved too, Cordish Co. Cordish will be building the apartments and grocery store which will also feature retail. Cornish is a company based in Baltimore. Omni Hotels & Resorts is headquartered in Dallas.
“Louisville is a premier destination and we are incredibly excited to be a part of the city’s continued evolution - we look forward to building upon the great successes that Louisville has already achieved,” said Mike Deitemeyer, president of Omni Hotels & Resorts.
At the groundbreaking, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said, “today was much more than just breaking ground on the Omni Louisville Hotel, today’s groundbreaking is symbolic of the future transformation of our city and the prosperity yet to come. This hotel will not only help bolster our reputation as a leading meetings and leisure destination, but will serve as a cornerstone where our downtown community can connect. We look forward to a very prosperous relationship with Omni.”
Downtown really is a premiere destination. Visitors love the theater options, high-quality restaurants and stroll on lovely Main Street. And residents flock to the area every year for Thunder Over Louisville and other celebrations. This development is sure to add more excitement.
