Disney Decisions: Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach?

Typhoon Lagoon vs Blizzard Beach

TripSavvy / Catherine Song

On a typical five or six-day Disney World vacation, you may have just enough time to head to one of the resort's water parks... once. If you only have time to visit just one park, which one should you choose, Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon?

While both parks have plenty of Disney magic to go around and feature similar attractions, they have different themes and appeal to different age groups. Select your park based on the attractions that are important to you and the ages and swim ability levels of your travel companions.

Reasons to Choose Typhoon Lagoon Over Blizzard Beach

Consider visiting Typhoon Lagoon if you are traveling with elementary school aged kids and strong swimmers. The wave pool at this park is one of the highlights for big kids and teens, but it will knock over small children and toddlers.

Typhoon Lagoon is also home to Shark Reef, one of Disney's most immersive and unique attractions. Guests snorkel at a pool filled with real marine life, including a few small sharks. This is a don't miss attraction for animal lovers and big kids who can swim. A snorkel is provided, along with a quick and easy to follow orientation. For animal lovers or adventurous swimmers, Shark Reef makes Typhoon Lagoon a "don't miss" water park.

Teens and adults who want to try surfing can report to Typhoon Lagoon for lessons in the park's huge wave pool. Call in advance and sign up and you'll be board ready by lunchtime.

Families with small kids will appreciate the long and winding lazy river and Ketch-a-Kiddie Creek water playground, while older kids and thrill riders won't want to miss the Humunga Kowabunga and Crusher Gusher slides.

Typhoon Lagoon has a truly tropical atmosphere, complete with sand, so if you enjoy the beach, you'll have fun sitting poolside here as well.

Choose Blizzard Beach Over Typhoon Lagoon for Thrills and High Speed Fun

Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach

The Walt Disney Company

Blizzard Beach is a thrill-seekers paradise, head here if you love the big coasters and wild fun to be had at the major Disney theme parks. From the top of Mount Gushmore to the sandy beaches below, you'll find plenty of fun at Blizzard Beach.

Don't miss the Summit Plummet — one of the highest and fastest slides in the world — or the nearby Slush Gusher, which treats riders to high-speed dips and turns. Groups traveling with big kids and teens will get the most from the high-speed offerings of Mount Gushmore at Blizzard Beach.

You don't have to be a good swimmer to enjoy Blizzard Beach; most of the slides empty into shallow pools. While many of the most eye-catching attractions are not kid friendly, the wave pool and kiddie slides are suitable for little ones.
