Trax Farms is a 630-acre working fruit and vegetable farm located 12 miles south of Pittsburgh in Finleyville, PA. It's been in the Trax family since 1814 when Jacob Trax arrived in the U.S. from Strasbourg, France. The complex features a seasonal farm market and bakery, a lawn and garden center, an antique shop, a wine shop, and more. Trax Farms is not just a favorite with the locals; visitors from all over stop by for the homegrown fruits and vegetables and baked goods.
Pick Your Own Seasonal Produce
The Trax Farms market sells fresh fruits and vegetables year-round, with homegrown produce available in spring, summer, and fall. Favorites are the fresh asparagus in May; strawberries in June; and black raspberries, red raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries in July. July also heralds the beginning of the sweet corn season. Other homegrown summer produce includes cantaloupes, peaches, tomatoes, beans, and peppers. In the fall, there are white and red potatoes, winter squash, and of course, pumpkins.
Trax Farms offers several different pick-your-own crops, beginning with strawberries in June, blueberries in July, and pick-your-own pumpkins during the Fall Harvest Festival in October.
Try the Delicious Homemade Baked Goods and Deli Treats
The country store and the bakery at Trax Farms are open year-round offering freshly baked bread and cookies, fudge, jams, jellies, marinades, salsa, barbecue sauce, homemade soup mixes, spices, candy, and other unique gourmet foods and kitchen supplies. At the deli, choose from a variety of meats and cheeses sliced to order, plus homemade bread puddings, salads, and cheese spread for a fabulous picnic. Trax also creates gift baskets for any occasion.
Attend the Trax Seasonal Events
Share the harvest season with Trax Farms during Fall Harvest Days. Enjoy the sights and scents of fall with the large cornstalk maze, scenic hayrides and fall decorations that are created right at the farm. Piles of pumpkins are for sale at the market or take a hayride out to the pumpkin fields to pick your own. The whole family will enjoy the Rainbow Express train ride, pony rides, pumpkin painting, and a petting zoo. Plus, there's Kettle Korn, candy apples, and other fun fall food. Fall Harvest Days are held every weekend through October.
In December, bring the kids for breakfast or lunch with Santa and bring home a fresh-cut Christmas tree, wreaths, and ornaments. Also check out the flea markets held at Trax Farms in the winter months, along with the winter beer and wine festivals. June brings strawberry and summer wine festivals, and other months feature events like cooking classes and craft shows.
Try the Local Fruit of the Vine
Trax Farms is a satellite store for Pennsylvania's Arrowhead Wine Cellars. You'll find 30 or more varietals from light whites to heady reds, all locally produced on the shores of Lake Erie. If wine's not your thing, Trax makes their own sugar-free apple cider and also sells a variety of craft beers.
