TripSavvy's editorial guidelines Updated on 06/26/19 Judy Hedding How far is Glendale? Glendale is a city in the West Valley, in the northwest part of the Greater Phoenix area. The following chart represents the distance from Glendale, Arizona to the indicated city, and the time it takes to drive there. While there are public transportation buses that go to Surprise, the METRO Light Rail system does not extend to Glendale. Glendale is on of the largest cities in Arizona. You'll find a variety of recreational activities in Glendale. Is is also known for the large sports and entertainment district located there, which includes University of Phoenix Stadium (Arizona Cardinals, Fiesta Bowl), Gila River Arena (Arizona Coyotes hockey and concerts) as well as a baseball facility (Spring Training). The dining and entertainment district (Westgate Entertainment District) hosts free events throughout the year. The purpose of this chart is to give an estimation, not an exact time or distance. Obviously, I had to pick one point in each location in order to map it. For Glendale, I chose the downtown municipal complex which is around 59th and Glendale Avenues. You may be starting or ending at some other point, so please keep that in mind. Likewise, as far as the times from one point to another are concerned, people drive differently, during different times of the day and week, and road conditions and restrictions happen. Speed limits vary from 55 mph to 75 mph on highways here. The times are just estimates. You'll find that the online mapping services that I used to create these numbers often indicate that you'll get there in roughly 'a mile per minute'. I don't usually find that to be true. If I am driving a combination of highways and city streets, I usually leave an hour for every 50 miles, and longer if it is a major event where I expect traffic or parking problems. The first set of cities, shown as white in the table, are in Maricopa County. The second set of cities, shown in light gray in the table, are in Pinal County and are considered part of the Greater Phoenix area. The third set of cities, shown in darker gray, are major destinations elsewhere in the State of Arizona. The last set of places, in the darkest gray, are common driving destinations outside Arizona.
