Looking for a kid-friendly Florida beach vacation? In the Gulf Coast's popular Clearwater/St. Petersburg area, TradeWinds Island Grand Beach Resort is a big draw for families.
The AAA four-diamond resort offers many family-friendly features, including roomy suites with kitchen facilities, but it's the beach playground and floating water park that really makes this property a standout.
TradeWinds Island Grand Beach Resort is located in St.
Pete Beach, which is part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater area. Specifically, St. Pete Beach is a town located on a barrier island just east of St. Petersburg, which lies on a peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
St. Pete Beach is 13 miles from St. Petersburg Clearwater International Airport and 21 miles from Tampa International Airport.
The Gulf Coast of Florida is known for its powdery white-sand beaches. As if a gorgeous stretch of sugary-fine sand wasn't enough to entice families, the resort's 20-acre Splash Island Water Park is a kid magnet. On the beach, there are several enormous inflatable slides as well as a few beach games, such as corn hole and paddleball. Use of these attractions is included in the mandatory resort fee that all guests pay.
There are also a number of fun features in a 15,000-square-foot floating water park whose features are anchored just off the beach.
It includes water trampolines, climbing inflatables, and other toys. Use of these attractions is not included in the resort fee and incur an additional fee.
The resort offers an array of other attractions for families, including paddle boats that can be pedaled along a waterway that winds through the property; mini golf; dive-in movies at the pool; volleyball and other games.
There are also five pools at the resort, including an adult-only pool, two oceanfront pools, and a kids pool near a children's club.
What's Included and What's Not
In addition to the room rate, guests pay a resort fee of $45 per room, per night. This fee gives guests access to some, but not all, of the water park features.
The resort fee includes:
- 200-foot inflatable High Tide Slide on the beach
- Surf Wipeout, an inflatable surfing challenge
- waterway paddle boats
- family pirate show

Guests must weigh more than 30 pounds and be at least 40 inches tall but kids between 40 inches and 45 inches tall must be accompanied by an adult. For a family of four, it would cost $64 for a single hour of fun. The floating water park features:

- large inflatable loungers
- splash mats and runways for running, playing and sunning.
