In health-conscious Boulder, Colorado, greasy burger joints are few and far between, which makes the sandwich a common go-to for residents and visitors in search of a quick, tasty meal. As a result, Boulder's selection of sub and sandwich shops rivals that of any other town.
Sandwiches are one of the most versatile foods known to man, and Boulder's many sandwich shops offer a wide variety of fresh takes on classics like sloppy joes, roast beef, and BLTs. No matter the mood or situation, you can almost always count on a Boulder-area sandwich shop for a perfect lunch, dinner, or sometimes even breakfast.
From Snarf's to Jimmy John's, you can grab a quick sandwich meal at these great restaurants on your next trip to the city, perfect for a to-go lunch for a day of hiking in the nearby foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

With 17 locations in Colorado and several in Missouri, Illinois, and Texas, Snarf's Sandwiches has become a regional staple when it comes to unique and delicious meals on the go. Boasting two Boulder locations, the menu at Snarf's features a great selection of toasted sandwiches with your choice of toppings. Located in the heart of the Hill neighborhood, Half Fast Subs serves up terrific sandwiches in an energetic atmosphere. Their gigantic sub menu ensures there’s something for everyone, and their spacious outdoor patio is great for lunch on sunny days.
The options are almost limitless, but if you’re in an adventurous mood, try the Stuffed Roast Beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and roast beef on warm French bread. Half Fast Subs also features an extensive drinks menu that includes a top-notch pitcher of Long Island iced tea.

Salvaggio’s is a classic Italian deli with three locations in town including one at Pearl Street Mall. Featuring Boar’s Head meats and cheeses, they use the best ingredients to create simple, tasty sandwiches. It can get a little pricey at over $10 for a full sub, but you can opt for a smaller roll (round sandwich) at a decent price.

Deli Zone is modeled after a Brooklyn-style deli, with almost as big a selection of breakfast sandwiches as lunch subs and three locations in Boulder. The hot sandwiches—which comprise most of the menu—are made on a well-seasoned griddle then toasted. Grab a Baby Kong for just the right amount of egg and sausage in the morning or the Brooklyn Bomb Sandwich with grilled turkey and mushrooms for an afternoon meal.Continue to 5 of 6 below.

Offering quick counter service and a good selection of hot and cold subs plus delicious soft cookies and chili at reasonable prices, Silver Mine Subs is a great place to go for lunch on a busy workday.
Their bread is always soft and their prices are reasonable, so it’s one of my go-to’s for lunch on workdays. Area favorites include the Georgetown with turkey breast, bacon, provolone, avocado, ranch, lettuce, and tomato; the Dodge City with pepperoni, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, oil, vinegar, oregano, and mayo; and the Mother Lode with roast beef, turkey breast, ham, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, vinegar, oregano, and mayo.

Of course, you could always stop by your favorite national chains that also have locations in the Boulder region. Jimmy John's is a national sub sandwich chain with locations all over the country that offers a consistently good menu at reasonable prices with two locations in Boulder. Well known as the fastest-growing sandwich joint in the world, Jimmy John's also offers delivery from both of its Boulder locations. There are also several Subway Sandwich locations in the city to choose from, but you're almost guaranteed to get a better-tasting (and more nutritious) sandwich at one of the local shops.
