Entrepreneur Magazine, one of the nation's premier business publications, has been producing an annual list of the country's top franchised companies for many years. The list is compiled based on the following criteria:

  • Annual Franchise Growth
  • Number of Years of Operation
  • Number of Years of Franchising
  • Financing Opportunities for Franchisees

On the list are several companies based in Oklahoma, a couple of which are right here in Oklahoma City.  Here are the top Oklahoma franchise companies:

Sonic Corporation

Based in Oklahoma City, with prominent offices in Bricktown, Sonic is one of the more popular fast food chains in the nation. The drive-in style restaurant, famous for their coneys, tots, and limeades has been going strong since 1953.

Sonic consistently ranks as one of the top franchises in the country, as well as one of the top fast food businesses.  Currently, Sonic has more than 3,500 franchised restaurants nationwide, and the company continues to expand.

Express Employment Professionals

Founded in 1983 by Robert Funk, William Stoller, and James Gray, Express Employment Professionals provides staffing services all over the world. They currently have over 700 franchise locations, 30 in Oklahoma alone.

Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt

Orange Leaf burst onto the scene in 2008, popular in part because of a variety of yogurt flavors and an eclectic toppings bar.  A year later, they began franchising, and there are now over 300 locations in more than 36 states.

Bonus Building Care

Indianola Oklahoma-based Bonus Building Care made a tremendous leap as a franchise in the 2000's. The commercial cleaning company was started by Arleen Cavanaugh in 1996 and currently has over 250 franchises across the nation.

Just Between Friends

You may be familiar with the Just Between Friends Consignment Sale events at Oklahoma City's State Fair Park.  What you might not know, though, is that the company was founded by two Tulsa mothers in 1997.  Their local sales were so successful that the idea spread across the country with franchises.  You'll find over 150 locations, in fact.

Billy Sims BBQ

The Heisman-winning running back from the University of Oklahoma opened his own barbecue restaurant in 2004.  A few years later, the concept became a franchise.  Based in Tulsa, there are nearly 50 locations, primarily in Oklahoma.  However, it's spreading into nearby states Kansas, Arkansas, and Missouri as well.  There are even a few in Michigan, the area in which Sims played professionally with the Lions.
