Presenting dishes packed with locally produced organic ingredients, Mayan Café in NuLu is pricier than other Mexican options, but worth it. They pride themselves on sourcing all their ingredients from local farms or small producers. On one visit, the staff even had a picture of the fish being served on the docks where it was caught. Also, the drinks are delicious.
Guaca Mole
The menu at Guaca Mole features multiple fantastic guacamole variations featuring ingredients like pickled onions, pork rinds, corn, and crisp plantains. Guaca Mole is a comfortable spot for families and couples alike. Some even pencil it in as their go-to restaurant when shopping at one of Louisville's East End shopping malls.
El Mundo
This Clifton neighborhood spot is known for large portions and flavorful margaritas. A small dining room is full of activity, El Mundo is a hip and colorful spot, often with rock music playing, for lunch or dinner. There is also outdoor seating, weather permitting.

Yes, Holy Mole is a food truck, not a restaurant, but that is a boon for taco lovers! It is a mobile resource for fresh, tasty tacos. Choose from beef tacos, fish tacos, chorizo tacos, grilled chicken tacos or tofu tacos. You can find the Holy Mole food truck at street fairs, local festivals and other events throughout Louisville when weather permits. Do you love food trucks? Check out the Flea Off Market.
El Molcajete
El Molcajete is a low key spot with authentic, flavorful food. Adventurous eaters will be pleased to see tongue and tripe on the menu but there is standard Tex-Mex fare, too. It is common to see workers from the track—and by track, we mean the famous Churchill Downs up the road—stopping in for a meal.
Merle's Whiskey Kitchen
Formerly known as Manny & Merle's and right across the street from Doc Crow's, Merle's Whiskey Kitchen is a laid-back bar and restaurant serving up tasty tacos, wings, burgers, and live music. It is a friendly spot after work, or brave the crowds out to see a concert or a basketball game at Yum! Center. How busy it is depends on when you go, take a risk or call ahead.
La Tropicana Company
A casual spot in the back of a grocery store, Tropicana is an bona fide taqueria, complete with homemade tortillas. Locals swear by this spot and travel to get their taco fix!
El Taco Luchador
Customers order at the counter and dispense their own fountain drinks at this popular taco and torta restaurant. The restaurant is often populated with young urban professionals, but you will see families stopping in for a bite, too. Luchador is in the former Lil Cheezers location, and has expanded to two other locations in Louisville.
Ramiro's Cantina
Word on the street is the brisket tacos at Ramiro's are fantastic. Ramiro's is across the street from El Mundo, but each has a distinct, and loyal, following.
