Located on Robson Street--just a few blocks from the famous Robson Street shopping district--the Empire Landmark Hotel is one of Vancouver's best budget hotels; room rates can be as low as $80 a night, depending on the season. In addition to affordable rooms, the hotel is also home to one of my favourite spots in the city: the Cloud 9 Revolving Restaurant and Lounge.

    10. AirBnB for Downtown Vancouver

OK, this one is not a hotel. But, many of my friends use AirBnB to find houses and apartments in Downtown Vancouver to rent for a vacation, long or short stay. (I've used it too.) This can be a great option for those who want privacy, or for families of four or more who want a full kitchen, more than one bedroom, etc.

There are a few tricks to using AirBnB for Downtown Vancouver:

    1. Use neighbourhood search terms: "Downtown Vancouver", "West End Vancouver" (for the area near Stanley Park), "Yaletown Vancouver", "Gastown Vancouver", "Coal Harbour Vancouver", and check the map to make sure know where the listing is.
    2. Take note of whether or not there is parking available (if you're coming with a car). Parking on the street can be expensive and difficult, so plan ahead and ask about parking.
    3. Book well in advance for the summer travel season.
    4. If you decide to look outside of the downtown core, make note of public transit options if you do not have a...MORE car (e.g., is the location near the SkyTrain / Canada Line rapid transit or on an easy bus route to reach Downtown).
