On Memorial Day, we take the time to remember those who have died serving our country. For many, Memorial Day weekend also is the official beginning of summer. This list features events in honor of those who have fallen, as well as summertime events. Enjoy the holiday weekend and stay safe. Here is the Memorial Day event schedule for Louisville, KY:
Where: Downtown, on the Belvedere
Abbey Road on the River is a music festival lasting five days. The event celebrates the music of the Beatles. There are multiple stages, food and beverage vendors, contests, and, of course, Beatles merchandise.
Where: Great Lawn, Waterfront Park
"Volunteers will form the letters "USA" using 25,000 flags from veterans' graves. When completed, the letters will each be 150' high and all 3 letters together will be 450' wide. These 25,000 flags honor all of America's fallen heroes, from every state in the Union, including military, law enforcement, and fire fighters. This event will culminate with a Memorial Day observance presided over by Mayor Greg Fischer...The public is invited to assist with placing the flags beginnning on Saturday, May 24th at noon and continuing through the weekend until all 25,000 flags have been placed. A Memorial Day ceremony will take place and is free and open to the public.
The Glo Run
Where: Big Four Lawn
A fun 5K run/walk taking place in the dark. As the name suggests, there will be plenty of glow sticks and illuminated inflatables. There is a fee to participate.
Bats Baseball Fireworks
Where: Slugger Field and surrounding area
Each Friday night, the Louisville Bast have fireworks after the game. In honor of the holiday weekend, fireworks will also follow this Sunday night Louisville Bats game.
Where: Parks and Streets of Louisville
Walkers, runners, cyclists, canoes and kayaks enjoy courses through Louisville parks, neighborhoods and waterways. Plan to participate in a 5k run/walk, a 15-mile bike ride or some other sporty activity. For instance, paddlers can celebrate their love of the water along Beargrass Creek and the Ohio River.

Gather up your family, friends and neighbors. Why not? It is free movie season. Of course, if you want to spend money, concessions are available.

Where: Atlantis Waterpark
Located in Clarksville, Indiana, Atlantis Water Park has a wave pool, four exciting water slides, and a splash area with fountains for younger kids. A trip to Atlantis makes for an affordable and fun summer day.
Hometown Quest Scavenger Hunt
This free and family-friendly scavenger hunt is part of Louisville's Hometown Tourist Celebration. Head to the Louisville Visitors Center, on 4th & Jefferson, and pick up a game card. Once all your tasks are completed, journey back to the Louisville Visitors Center for a prize.
