From lovely bouquets to simple assortments, the locally-sourced floral arrangements found in the shopping districts and malls of Kansas City make for unique and artistic gifts for that special someone on Valentine's Day.

Consider stopping by The Country Club Plaza, one of the top shopping malls in the area, which is always decorated in bright reds and pinks in honor of the love-filled holiday. Or when the weather is particularly dreary, try Oak Park Mall in Overland Park, Kansas, one of the largest indoor shopping centers in the city.

Alternatively, you can also support local establishments in person, like The Fiddly Fig Florist, Steve's Floral Shop, or Toblers Flowers. If you aren't confident in your taste, you can even bring your date and let them pick out their own arrangement.

Save Money With Free Excursions

Many people associate Valentine's Day with expensive flower arrangements and elegant restaurants, but the holiday doesn't have to break your bank. Kansas City offers plenty of free things to do, making it easy to enjoy some of the best parts of the city without spending a dime.

If the weather clears up for a mid-winter sunny day, enjoy an outdoor picnic at the Berkley Riverfront or Loose Park. When the weather doesn't cooperate, head to the beautifully designed Nelson-Atkins Museum, which is always free to the public.

Kansas City has a flourishing craft beer scene, and many of the local breweries offer free tours of their factories. The most famous brewery in the city is Boulevard Brewing, but try out some others including Stockyards and Torn Label. Even though the tour is free, don't leave your wallet at home since you'll more likely than not want to imbibe afterward.
