The Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area has several ice skating rinks, most of which offer figure skating lessons, hockey leagues, and plenty of time for folks to just skate around freestyle for fun. Raleigh IcePlex's Olympic-size rink is home to a huge list of ice skating activities: hockey for kids, hockey for adults, figure skating, skating lessons and ice skating summer camp.
The IcePlex also hosts birthday parties—just be sure everyone can stand up on skates. On the second floor, there's a gaming room, rock climbing wall, and computers, all with a great view of the ice and skaters below. The IcePlex is open year-round.
The Polar Ice House Cary is just down the street from Crossroads Plaza in Cary. It has a relatively small rink but still offers a full array of programs that include birthday parties and hockey lessons. The Cary Ice House also has a video arcade and a snack bar in its heated viewing area, so siblings, friends and relatives who don't feel like skating can stay occupied while their favorite skater is on the ice.
Polar Ice House Wake Forest is in the Factory Shopping area on South Main Street in Wake Forest, about 20 miles from Raleigh. The rinks offer two NHL regulation ice rinks. Open hockey, hockey league, and freestyle figure skating sessions are on the schedule. The rinks at all Polar Ice Houses have sound and lights for an extra-special experience.
Ice House Garner offers a full array of skating programs that include programs for tots and home-schooled children. Polar Ice House Garner is associated with the Triangle Figure Skating Club, Prime Time Hockey, Raleigh Youth Hockey Association and the Carolina Eagles.
The Triangle SportsPlex is a public sports facility in Hillsborough and is convenient to Durham and Chapel Hill. The SportsPlex is the home rink of the University of North Carolina and Duke University hockey teams. The Triangle SportsPlex offers hockey and figure skating camps, lessons, clinics and tournaments as well as public skating sessions. The Triangle SportsPlex also has an indoor swimming pool and a full fitness training facility, complete with cardio deck and weight training equipment, so non-skaters can find plenty to do while friends are on the ice.
Raleigh Center Ice is the training rink for the NHL Carolina Hurricanes. They offer public skating, stick and puck, and adult hockey on their schedule. They offer a hockey basics class for kids wanting to take up the sport of hockey.
Figure Skating practice sessions are open to upper-level skaters or skaters with their own coach. The rink is conveniently located just inside the Raleigh Beltline. They have a pro shop.
