Tacoma's pizza restaurants are there for you whether you want a tasty lunch buffet, delivery to kick back with over a movie, or even a restaurant to head to with friends or a date. No matter why a pizza is in your future, you won’t be disappointed by the array of delicious pies to be found in T-town.
While a number of chain pizza places in Tacoma offer solid pizza choices, these are the more obvious places to go that need no introduction. But the local pizza places tend break out of the chain mold and offer something special, something local and something unique.
The Rock makes the list due to its interesting flavor combinations, expansive menu of pizza and more, but also for its affordability. Head to the lunch buffet for a super reasonable lunch. A strong selection of microbrews and cocktails make The Rock just that much better, and this is a great place to head for happy hour too. In the evening, the full pizza menu has a great selection of non-traditional flavors, sauces and toppings (and traditional favorites too), but it's also next to The Swiss so this area can be a great place to hang out for the night.

Abella's downtown location and lunch specials make it a popular choice for downtown workers and students. Abella's flavor options include both standard pies like cheese, pepperoni and barbecue chicken, as well as some Abella's creations, like the Pesto Artichoke or Spanish Fiesta. A distinctly chewy crust makes Abella stand out and the lunch special here is perfect for a cheap meal for two.

This restaurant by the Tacoma Mall is not pizza specific, but if you want a sit-down dinner in a nice (but still casual) atmosphere and you want a pizza—this is a fine place to go. Unique pizzas like the Pesto Shrimp, Chef's Ulitmate Carne and Barbecue Pork are complemented by classics like the Margherita. Plus, the menu has a range of other Italian fare if you're with someone who's just not that into pizza. The bar area offers a happy hour.

This pizza joint on 6th Avenue is delivery only, and it’s some of the best delivery in town. The crust is very good, and the toppings range from standard to very unique (almonds or coconut, anyone?). The specialty pizzas are delicious, but if you want to get pizza on the cheap, ordering online or with a coupon can often get you great deals. Don't be afraid to mix things up a little bit either. You can swap out the traditional white or red sauce for zesty chipotle, basil pesto, ranch and other sauces or customize your order with extra toppings, many of which aren't found at any other pizza place in town.

Long one of the best local pizza places, the Cloverleaf has a thin, slightly crispy and almost greasy crust—and it’s delicious. Toppings are fresh and you’ll find a delectable array of pizzas on the menu. Most of their specialty pizzas have meat, but there are plenty of veggie toppings too. Don’t expect lightning quick service as all pizzas are cooked to order from scratch. Come here to kick back, relax, maybe have a beer and enjoy the pizza. There is a family area in the back of the restaurant, too, with a few games to keep the kids busy.

Another local favorite, Puget Sound Pizza doesn’t look impressive from the outside in its downtown locale. The pizza is awesome, has an array of fresh toppings and lots of them, and super thin crust. PSP serves as a great nightlife spot too if you want a place to hang out, or do some karaoke. Perhaps surprisingly, this pizza place is also one of the top breakfast places in Tacoma, but the breakfast menu focuses on breakfast fare instead of pizza.

Located right on the scenic Waterfront, Katie Downs is the pizza restaurant with the best view in town by far. The pizza toppings are fairly standard with a few twists that add some flare to your meal. Bay shrimp are featured on a few of the specialty pizzas, and you can order a small personal pan pizza with a side of fries or salad for about $10. For gluten-free pizza seekers, there's a pizza on a portabello mushroom option that's unique and fresh. Make sure to ask about their Deep Dish pizza, you won't regret it.
