We're back with our series Inside Atlanta—each week, we sit down with influential locals to talk about what Atlanta means to them. Today we’re chatting with Byron Fullmer, manager at The Stout Brothers, a fabulous local beer market offering growlers of craft beer to the masses, both local and regional, along with delicious local bites since 2012. Fullmer, who runs the market in Inman Park and helped open their restaurant, The Nest Kennesaw, is a lover of all things hoppy when it comes to beer.

You’ll find him behind the counter answering questions about the next best beer and the perfect food pairing. Today we get a tour of The Big Peach lead by Fullmer himself.

I live in…Smyrna. I bought a house with my lovely wife Sara almost 10 years ago. It’s our first house, so Smyrna was appealing for a lot of reasons. We had lived in the area for several years prior, made some great friends, and really liked the neighborhood bars and restaurants. At the time I was a liquor rep, so Smyrna was a nice central location.”

I Wish People Knew… “We are much more than fried chicken and sweet tea (not that there is anything wrong with that). Atlanta is full of great people, and despite its sprawling size, it’s actually a very close-knit, connected city. The food, beer and cocktail culture is absolutely amazing right now.”

You Can Find Me… “My back patio, sipping on some beers. I’m in the service industry usually six days a week, so a little cave time is perfect to recharge my batteries.”

It’s Dinner Time, I’m headed to… “BoccaLupo is my absolute favorite food in the world. I live in Smyrna, but work in Inman. I love the burgers from The Albert in Inman Park. Great beers and sides, but the burger takes a backseat to no one. In Smyrna, Muss & Turner’s is one of the most underrated spots in the city.

We love brunch here, and the attached speakeasy, Eleanor’s.”

Clock strikes 5 o’clock, I’m drinking… “Beer—it pays the bills and it’s delicious—at Meehan’s in Vinings for the patio. Once I’m full, it’s either vodka or whiskey. Vodka sodas are always around, as they are easy and light. My favorite drink would be a Manhattan. Skip the bar cherry please.”

If I Had to Stay in a Hotel, I’d check into… The St. Regis. I only drink at local hotels, so I’d have to say people watching there is a favorite pastime.”

When I’m Playing Tourist, I go to…Dad’s Garage is always a blast, and going to see shows at The Variety Playhouse and The Tabernacle are must-dos. The weekday getaway to Kennesaw Mountain is always a good way to recharge too.”

I Get My Sweat On…LA Fitness in Smyrna. I hate treadmills, so getting some basketball in to lose some beer weight is always happening. When we can get away, the wife and I love hiking in the North Georgia mountains.”

I Love Spending My Money At...Sam Ash and Atlanta Pro Percussion for nerdy drummer stuff.”
