La Jolla Shores Hotel is a prominent landmark along the stretch of coastline in northern La Jolla. With its Spanish architecture consisting of stately arches and a terra cotta colored rooftop, it provides a striking presence beside the Pacific Ocean. Though many people visit La Jolla Shores, the name of the beach bordering the hotel and which gives La Jolla Shores Hotel its moniker, not many people venture into the hotel. Even if you don’t have a reason to stay overnight in the hotel, however, you can still experience why it is an iconic part of San Diego by eating at its onsite restaurant: The Shores Restaurant.
The Shores Restaurant Ambiance
Located on the western edge of the hotel, the Shores Restaurant provides a wide, dramatic view of the ocean made especially good by the hotel being slightly elevated above the beach. Ascend the staircase from the boardwalk into the restaurant and choose whether you’d like to sit in the inside dining area with its large picture windows or on the breezy patio which has ample views of the Pacific. When dining outdoors, you’ll also enjoy an insider’s look at the hotel’s relaxing pool area and the rows of rooms surrounding it.
Inside, the decor is light with a sophisticated beach theme. It makes for an airy, relaxed breakfast or lunch or a romantic dinner.
The Shores Restaurant Menu
The Shores Restaurant specializes in farm to table ingredients with an emphasis on sustainable seafood. The menu mostly consists of Pacific- and California-inspired fare with some Mexican cuisine favorites thrown in. The fish tacos and nachos are delicious and are served with a hefty heap of flavorful, chunky guacamole. You can also try more daring cuisine such as duck ravioli or watermelon arugula salad.
No matter what meal you’re in the mood for, the Shores Restaurant is ready to serve you, as it is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Casual attire is acceptable and it is also kid-friendly -- which doesn’t come as much surprise due to its patio’s location next to the pool where you’ll likely hear the sounds of kids playing (though not so close that it’s distracting). The Shores Restaurant also has an excellent happy hour Sunday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. You’ll get great savings on some of the Shores Restaurant’s most popular items, including the fish tacos, plus get a discount on beer, wine and certain cocktails.
