The Luna Park Chalk Art Festival returns to San Jose on September 17, 2016.

This past Saturday was the annual Luna Park Chalk Art Festival in Downtown San Jose's Backesto Park. This was the event's eighth year of bringing together local artists, children, and community members to create magical displays of art in a humble city park. Over 120 local artists and 25 schools participated in this year's event.

The Luna Park Chalk Art Festival started as a project of the Luna Park/North 13th Street Business Association. They wanted to foster creativity in the community and honor the memory of the of the historic Luna Park amusement park that once brought visitors from across California to the local neighborhood. All proceeds from the chalk art festival go to benefit the Luna Park Arts Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports school arts programs and scholarships for local students.

Local music and dance groups performed, and vendors and nonprofit organizations set up shop. Hundreds of neighbors came by to admire the art and join in this celebration of creativity and community.
