With a fantastic downtown location, great service and plenty of little extras, the Homewood Suites is ideal for any type of traveler. The eco-friendly, LEED-certified hotel is in the trendy Strip District of downtown Pittsburgh, just steps from the Pittsburgh Public Market, the convention center and PNC Park. Guests can relax on a rooftop patio with two fire pits and barbecue grills or go for a swim in the heated indoor pool. The 150 suites consist of spacious studios or one-bedroom suites with separate living areas and kitchens with dishwashers and refrigerators. Breakfast is included, as is an evening weekday cocktail hour.
Best for Families: Shadyside Inn All Suites Hotel
For families who want a little more space to sprawl out without a high price tag, the Shadyside Inn All Suites Hotel is an excellent choice. Located in the upscale residential neighborhood of Shadyside near boutique shops and fabulous restaurants, it is also just a short jaunt from the universities and attractions. A slew of amenities are included in the price, such as parking, bike rentals, a dog park, laundry, electric car charging and a downtown shuttle. The 106 apartment-style suites have an extensive in-room dining menu, or full kitchens (saving families some cash), hardwood floors and contemporary home decor. Furry friends are welcome.
Best Budget: Hotel Indigo Pittsburgh
Part of the hip hotel chain, the 136-room, Hotel Indigo is perfect for budget-minded travelers who want to get off the beaten path. Located in the up-and-coming neighborhood of East Liberty, the sleek, modern hotel has beautiful, spacious rooms at a reasonable price. These stylish rooms feature spa bathrooms, wood-paneled floors with colorful throw rugs and designer lighting. The pet-friendly hotel has a new American tavern inspired by the Prohibition Era, as well as a convenient 24-hour fitness center. Valet parking is additional, but TripAdvisor members noted that there were a number of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and the local bus is just around the corner.
Best for Nightlife: The Ace Hotel Pittsburgh
Fashioned from a century-old former YMCA building, the 63-room, Ace Hotel is perched in the East Liberty neighborhood within walking distance to several lively bars and fabulous restaurants. Perfect for those looking for nightlife, the hotel has a popular lobby bar that offers happy hour specials, but the trendy, cafeteria-like restaurant serves up new American fare in a casual setting. The old YMCA gym remains as a youthful social area for people to mingle and play ping pong or corn hole. Rooms come in several sizes, but the small rooms are the perfect crash pad for a night on the town and have 250 square feet of space, as well as modern amenities such as Tivoli radios, Wi-Fi and fully-stocked mini bars.
Best for Romance: Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh
The 248-room Kimpton Hotel Monaco is an elegant hotel in downtown Pittsburgh that makes for a romantic stay. Rooms have beautiful decor touches (think bedside chandeliers dangling inside a golden birdcage, tufted green headboards, pillow-topped mattresses and spa-like bathrooms). A wine social hour is a fabulous way to start the evening, but guests can also dine in the sleek on-site restaurant that serves American fare, we well as local beer and wine. Best Boutique: The Priory Hotel
For a unique stay, the 42-room Priory Hotel was once a Benedictine Monastery and now offers historic charm with European-style service. Opened in 1888, the historic brick building was expanded in 2010 to offer a brand-new wing with modern accommodations. Rooms are available in a number of options (including one for single travelers) and have sleigh beds, beautiful wood furniture, as well as views of the courtyard or downtown. Guests can mingle at the cozy Monk’s Bar for craft beer and cocktails or relax in the beautiful outdoor courtyard. Free amenities include a shuttle, continental breakfast and parking. There’s also a traditional sports bar, a new American restaurant, as well as casual a breakfast café. Rooms have vintage, cherrywood furnishings, robes, foam or feather beds and pillows, MP3 alarm clock radios and motion-activated lights. Square footage in each room category can vary dramatically, so ask for one with more space.
Best Business: HYATT House Pittsburgh-South Side
Located in the South Side neighborhood near the entertainment district, the 136-room, Hyatt House is perfect for business travelers seeking a convenient location. Guests can take a dip in the indoor pool or have fun in Southside Works, a shopping an entertainment center just outside the hotel doors. When it’s time to work, meeting spaces for up to 100 people are available, as is a 24-hour business center. Breakfast is included, but there’s also a bar and restaurant on the property. Rooms have modern decor, full kitchens (a grocery delivery service is available), large work desks, comfortable, plush bedding and separate living areas. Parking is additional.
Best and Breakfast: The Parador Inn
For a cheerful bed and breakfast with a friendly, welcoming staff, look no further than the Parador Inn of Pittsburgh. A favorite of TripAdvisor members, the 1800s mansion fuses classic elegance with Caribbean flair. Each of the nine rooms differ in design, but have hardwood floors, a gas fireplace, refrigerators, full baths, as well as bright and colorful décor. Every inch of the inn oozes character. Guests can relax in the outdoor garden, the lounge or have breakfast in the dining room. Fitness passes to the local YMCA are included for those who want to sneak in a workout. The hotel is in the Allegheny West neighborhood near the park and aviary.
