For starters, there’s the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with its glass-pyramid façade, the Cleveland Orchestra (which plays in the stunning Severance Hall), the West Side Market (a 100-year old indoor marketplace) and three major sports teams: The Cavaliers, Browns and the Indians. For adventurous travelers on a budget, the Cleveland Hostel is a hybrid between a trendy boutique hotel and a socially inviting backpacker hostel. Best for Families: Drury Plaza Hotel Cleveland Downtown
The Drury Hotel chain is known for its family-friendly appeal and comfortable accommodations and the Drury Plaza Hotel Cleveland Downtown is no different. The 189-room hotel is housed in the former Board of Education Building (circa 1931) and was restored in 2014. Best Luxury: Ritz Carlton Cleveland
Fresh off a 2017 renovation, the Ritz-Carlton Cleveland is even more gorgeous than ever and is an ideal place for luxury travelers. The 206-room hotel is located steps away from the Arcade Cleveland shopping center and the Jack Cleveland Casino. Rooms have a minimum of 405 square feet of space with lavish Italian marble baths, plush robes, iPod docking stations, views of the city, Lake Erie or the Cuyahoga River. Guests can dine at MUSE bar and restaurant and sample fresh, seasonal cuisine. TripAdvisor members loved that the hotel was connected to the Tower City Center and in close proximity to the trendy Warehouse District.
Best Business: Marriott Downtown at Key Center
A popular choice for business travelers, Marriott Downtown at Key Center is connected to one of the tallest office buildings in Cleveland. It's just one block from the Huntington Convention Center and across from the Public Square. The 25-story hotel has 400 guestrooms with sleek, modern decor, a minimum of 234 square feet of space and views of the lake or city. There are two on-site restaurants. One is a stylish lounge serving tapas and craft cocktails and the other is a sandwich shop that’s open for breakfast and lunch. Best Boutique: Glidden House
For a change of pace from the chain hotels, the Glidden House is a three-diamond, boutique hotel located on the grounds of the Case Western Reserve University. Registered on the National List of Historic Places, the 60-room hotel has French-Gothic style architecture, with beautiful chandeliers and furnishings that blend with modern room decor. There’s also a business center, cocktail lounge (open in the evenings) and a fantastic on-site restaurant that serves northern Italian fare. The Glidden House is within walking distance to the Cleveland Botanical Garden, Cleveland Museum of Art and the shops and restaurants of Little Italy. Free Wi-Fi, parking and a European-style breakfast are included with room rates.
Best Nightlife: Metropolitan at 9
Part of the Marriott’s Autograph Collection, the Metropolitan at 9 is a trendy option located in the historic Gateway District, a buzzing area that’s full of bars, restaurants and dance clubs - perfect for the traveler seeking a nightlife scene. A friendly dog and cat are permanent residents at the B&B and the cheerful owner continues to add to his home with curated art and elegant – yet – cozy decor. Wake up to the smell of coffee brewing and breakfast cooking (a full breakfast is included, but grab-and-go options are available if you’re in a hurry). Individually decorated rooms include premium bed linens, four-poster beds and antique wood furnishings. Best Romance: Kimpton Schofield Hotel Cleveland
