The 38-room, waterfront hotel is part of the Ascend Hotel Collection and is located in the historic neighborhood of Fell's Point, with plenty of shops and restaurants to explore along the cobblestone streets. Guests can mingle at the evening receptions and enjoy the included breakfast served in the lovely courtyard. Rooms feature dark wood furnishings, views of the boats in the harbor, exposed brick walls, pillow-topped mattresses and mini bars. A 24-hour fitness center is available and shuttle service can whisk guests around town.

Best Budget: Hotel Brexton

Smaller (boutique) hotels often carry a hefty price tag, but that’s not the case at the Hotel Brexton. The 25-room, historic hotel is perfect for travelers on a budget who want to get away from the typical chain hotels without paying a high price. Located 10 blocks north of Baltimore's Inner Harbor in the historic neighborhood of Mount Vernon, a number of restaurants and shops are within an easy stroll from the hotel. A complimentary European-style breakfast buffet is available. Rooms have amenities such as Keurig coffee makers and iPod docking stations.

TellTale is the onsite dining option serving Maryland-inspired dishes with plenty of restaurants nearby, too. The lobby décor fuses Renaissance-era artwork with industrial design schemes. Rooms include chic décor, complimentary business services and large work desks. TripAdvisor members noted the one drawback is that parking is expensive – so leave the car at home if you can.

Best Boutique: Hotel Indigo

The Hotel Indigo was a welcome addition to the boutique hotel scene in Baltimore when it was renovated in 2015. Located in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood, the 162-room Hotel Indigo is steps away from the Walters Art Museum and within walking distance to the Inner Harbor. It does a great job blending historic architecture with modern designs. Rooms have a literary theme, hardwood floors, vibrant furnishings, and mini refrigerators. For a bite to eat, the lobby-level restaurant serves American classics and cocktails. There is no parking, but an inexpensive parking garage is located across the street. The hotel is pet-friendly (for a small fee).

The Hampton Inn Baltimore Downtown-Convention Center is an excellent option for a family-friendly stay with gracious service and a convenient location. The 126-room hotel is across the street from the Oriole Park baseball stadium and about a mile from the National Aquarium, the Inner Harbor and Port Discovery Children’s Museum. A free hot breakfast is included with every stay or guests can grab a breakfast bag for a quick meal on the go. There’s also an indoor swimming pool, whirlpool and fitness center. Rooms have free Wi-Fi, a mini refrigerator, microwave and premium bedding. Parking is additional. TripAdvisor members loved the convenience to the stadium, the selection at the breakfast buffet and the reasonable prices.

Best for Nightlife: Kimpton Hotel Monaco Baltimore Inner Harbor

With style and service, the Kimpton Hotel Monaco places guests steps away from all the bars and nightlife action in the Inner Harbor. Housed in the historic B&O Railroad Headquarters, the 202 rooms have a minimum of 375 square feet of space, honor bars, premium bath products and gorgeous city views. Squeeze in a workout at the fitness center. There’s also a restaurant serving American fare with locally sourced, artisan ingredients and the attached bar has a buzzing atmosphere with craft beers and a great happy hour. Nearby, check out the Tin Roof for live music or Leinenkugel's Beer Garden for a fun outdoor space.
