Tanner is a Vermont-based writer, editor, and photographer who uses a multidisciplinary approach to cover the outdoors and the people, places, and gear that lend to its culture. A graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School and former wilderness educator, Tanner’s firsthand experience in outdoor recreation is comprehensive and he applies that knowledge to covering skiing, hiking, backpacking, camping, and more.
Tanner also writes about and photographs sports, fitness, travel, and food. He is a three-time marathoner with a PR of 2:57:52 and his work has taken him to such places as the summit of Mt. Rainier and Russia’s remote Kamchatka Peninsula.


Tanner published his first photographs in high school and has been writing professionally since 2015. He is the managing editor of Field Mag and a former senior staff writer at Gear Patrol, and his work has appeared elsewhere in print and on the websites of publications such as Freeskier, Whalebone, Esquire, Men’s Health, and ESPN’s XGames.com.


Tanner is a graduate of the University of Vermont and the National Outdoor Leadership School.
