Just a few steps away from the absurd extravagance that is Wynn Las Vegas you get a taco spot that possibly serves the best, cheap meal on the strip. When I say cheap it’s possible to get lunch for under $5 so it is very cheap. Tacos El Gordo on the Las Vegas strip is like walking up to a roadside taco stand in Baja. You’ll smell the wood burning when you walk in and you’ll look around for the stray dogs that are looking for your scraps.
Part of the 77 Places to Eat Cheap in Las Vegas
If you grew up at all heading to Rosarito or Ensenada, Mexico, you’ll understand what I mean the minute you step into Tacos El Gordo. On a busy night people are ordering, waiting and eating all in one spot. The people doing the cooking speak a brand of Spanish that is quick and efficient. Order, pay, eat.
It’s worth a visit and it is cheaper than any meal you’ll get on the Las Vegas strip.

What to Expect at Tacos El Gordo Las Vegas:
Tacos El Gordo is a no-frills taco spot. The Taqueria that people will try to describe to you as both cheap and very good. You order from the people in front of the meat and while it seems like they are not listening to you in a few seconds a tray with tacos appears. You can choose from beef, pork, cabeza, lengua, al pastor, chorizo, papas. If you have had it at a taco truck you can grab it at Tacos El Gordo.
Once you order you’ll sit under their covered patio and feel like a local. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of other tourists with you taking advantage of the cheap meal.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The tacos are cheap at just over $2 per taco. This is cheap for the strip but not necessarily cheap for tacos. I just felt I should point that out because the last time I was there with a friend he made sure to explain that to me as if I had not grown up eating roadside tacos. It’s cheap it’s just not ultra-cheap like you might be accustomed to.
How’s the food at Tacos El Gordo Las Vegas?
While I have had all the tacos at Tacos El Gordo I do have some favorites. The suadero and tripa are probably my favorite. The Al Pastor always has plenty of flavor. The carnitas while good can be dry depending on what time of day you show up. The Carne Asada is inconsistent. The chorizo is a mess as it seems like they cook it in the morning and then warm it up whenever someone orders it.
I might sound critical of Tacos El Gordo but I really do enjoy this spot. I have eaten here on way more occasions than I care to admit. I’ll hover over six tacos like a kid looking into a Halloween candy bag. This is one of the best deals on the Las Vegas strip and it’s open long hours so you can fit it in at various times during the day.
I have to drop in the disclaimer. My theory is that the tacos are far better at lunch time, dinner and late night. If the place is busy the food is really good. If you go in on a Wednesday afternoon at 3:30, way after lunch and before dinner you get some inconsistent food. I’ll still eat it but you might question if it is as good as everyone says it is.
Bottom Line: It’s cheap, it’s good, it’s convenient and it’s filling. You’ll love it and say I’m wrong or you’ll hate it and agree with me. Either way, you’ll get some satisfaction.
