SW Washington DC: Maps and SW Waterfront Guide

SW Washington DC (also known as Southwest DC) is located south of the National Mall and west of South Capitol Street. It is the smallest quadrant of the city and contains just five separate neighborhoods: the Southwest Federal Center, the Southwest Waterfront, Buzzard Point, Bolling Air Force Base and Bellevue.

SW Washington DC contains the museums and memorials along the south side of the National Mall, L'Enfant Plaza, numerous federal office buildings, several marinas, the Maine Avenue Fish Market, Arena Stage, Fort McNair, Hains Point and East Potomac Park, West Potomac Park, and Bolling Air Force Base.

With its prime location along the Potomac River and excellent access to downtown Washington DC, the Southwest Waterfront is undergoing a transformation into an urban destination that mixes maritime activity with culture. Redevelopment plans include building new restaurants, shops, condominiums, a hotel, marinas, a waterfront park, and an expanded riverfront promenade with public access to the water. This map shows the boundaries of SW Washington, DC.

Southwest Waterfront Map, Transportation and Directions

The Southwest Waterfront, shown by the blue polygon on the map, is undergoing a massive redevelopment and will soon become a vibrant neighborhood in the heart of Washington DC. It is located adjacent to I-395 and easy to get to. This area is located just south of the National Mall and is sure to become a popular place for visitors and residents to enjoy shopping, dining, and a variety of waterfront activities. Getting to the SW Waterfront

By Metro: The closest Metro station is Waterfront, located one block East of Arena Stage

By Bike - Capital Bikeshare - Bike kiosks are located at 6th and Water St. SW and 4th and M St SW.

Driving Directions to the Southwest Waterfront

From I-395:
Take the I-395 N exit toward Washington DC
Take exit 4 toward SW Waterfront/Nationals Park/Maine Ave
Take a slight left onto G St SW
Take a slight right onto 9th St SW
Turn left onto Maine Ave SW
The Southwest Waterfront is on the Right
From the National Mall:
Head South on 9th St SW
Turn left onto Maine Ave SW
The Southwest Waterfront is on the Right

Parking in SW Washington DC

Due to construction of the Wharf, street parking is very limited. Water Street will soon no longer be available for parking at all.  Meter times vary upon location and can be valid up to 10:00 p.m. in some locations.
