Hosted by the OKC Kennel Club and the Mid-Del-Tinker Kennel Club and sponsored by Purina, Clear Channel Communications and the OKC Convention and Visitor's Bureau, the OKC Summer Classic Dog Shows take place in late June and early July at the Cox Convention Center downtown.

With many breeds on hand for competition as well as vendors and behind-the-scenes tours, this event is a uniquely entertaining one for the entire family.

Below is detailed event information on location, admission, activities and more.

Dates and Times:

The 2017 OKC Summer Classic Dog Shows will be held June 28 through July 2, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day with final group competition beginning around 3 p.m.

Location, Directions and Parking:

In previous years, the event took place at the Cox Convention Center downtown, but for 2017, there is a new location - Oklahoma City's State Fair Park, specifically in the Bennett Event Center on the southeast part of the grounds. State Fair Park is located at NW 10th Street and North May Avenue.

The easiest way to get to State Fair Park is off of I-44.  Exit eastbound at NW 10th.  If entering the park area off of NW 10th, go south on Gordon Cooper Boulevard.  Visitors can also turn south on May Avenue and enter from the east side, very near the Bennett Event Center.

Free parking is abundant, including large lots near the event center just west of May Avenue.

Tickets:

Tickets cost only $7.00 for adults, $2.00 for children.  Admission is free for kids under 12. They're available for purchase at the Bennett Event Center door during the event.

The Competition:

Thousands of dogs from all over the US and the world will be on hand to compete. The competition is expected to have over 145 breeds or varieties of dog and consists of varying classes, from novice to "utility" in which the dogs receive only hand signals.

There is a Rally Obedience in which handlers take the dogs through a series of instructions on a designated path as well.

And More...:

In addition to the competition, canine enthusiasts will find over 50 vendor booths with dog-related merchandise including food, beds, leashes and even jewelry and antiques.

Visitors can take a behind-the-scenes tour of the dog show and meet owners and their dogs. In addition, there are seminars.  For more information, email info.okc.kc@gmail.com.
