Operated by the Sulphur Parks and Recreation Department (SPAR), the Sulphur Water Park is small by industry standards. If you are looking for a humongous place along the lines of Schlitterbahn Resort in New Braunfels, Texas (which is one of the biggest and best water parks in the world with world-class attractions and high thrills), forget about it. If, however, you are looking for an outdoor water parks to cool down and enjoy a few water slides and other watery diversions, Sulphur fits the bill.
Young kids can chill out in Patch's Splash Pad. Sprayers and fountains will keep them cool and entertained. The water depth is only slightly higher at Splash & Play Island. More fountains and sprayers are featured there along with small slides, a climbing structure, and a tipping bucket.
Kids of all ages, as well as adults, are invited to make their way around Larry's Lazy River. The attraction includes a vortex with swift currents to challenge stronger swimmers. All visitors are also welcome in Sulphur Water Park's Lagoon Pool.
A second interactive play area, Parrot Island, is designed for older kids. It also includes a dump bucket to soak those who dare to stand under it. Other attractions include small body slides, and sprayers.
The most thrilling attractions (and again, we're not talking Six Flags-level thrills here) include Raging River, a second lazy river that includes waves. Sulphur Water Park's three major slides are all reserved for guests 48 inches or taller. They include the Twisted Serpent and Blue Dragon body slides and the Green Monster tube slide.
The outdoor water park is part of Sulphur's recreation and aquatic center which also includes an indoor pool and game room.
Sulphur divides its outdoor facility into two areas, the original "basic" park and the expanded Raging River park charges, and charges separate fees to enter each of the areas. Residents who live in the Sulphur district qualify for a discount. The park offers a 30-visit pass (available to all and discounted for in-district residents) as well as unlimited visit season passes (available for in-district residents only). 2 and under are free.
The entire park is available for rental and offers party packages. Sulphur also rents areas of the park for small groups.
