Stone Age Climbing Gym in Albuquerque

Since 1997, the Stone Age Climbing Gym has provided an indoor space for beginner and experienced climbers in Albuquerque to learn about the sport of climbing. With a climbing school, group activities, birthday parties, team building, summer camps and individual memberships, there is something for everyone, no matter the skill level. The climbing terrain accommodates climbers of every experience level, and experienced instructors are on hand to guide climbers in all aspects of the sport. Some of the climbs are extremely easy, and some challenging to even the most dedicated athletes.

The gym also has outdoor climbs.

Rock Climbing as a Sport

Training opportunities for learning rock climbing as a sport include specialized workshops and classes in the climbing school. With a fully equipped climbing shop, specialized gear is on hand, with a knowledgeable staff to assist in choosing the right equipment. The gym has 23,000 sf of floor space and over 21,000 sf of climbing walls. Heights range up to 60 feet high out the prow of the 45 foot climbing wall. There are nine auto belay ropes, 39 top ropes and 46 lead anchor stations, providing plenty of opportunities to climb.

The gym offers mountain guides for the Sandia Mountains and the surrounding areas for those who want to continue climbing outdoors.

Youth Programs

Rock climbing provides an individualizes sport where kids compete against their best. Competition with a group can provide the social aspect of competing with a team. There is an alternative P.E. class for homeschooled children that meets Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m.  

For kids interested in rock climbing as a sport, Team Mojo practices during the week. There are three different teams, Mojo 1, Mojo 2 and Mojo 3, each team meeting at a different time and day of the week. 

The Rec Climbing Club if for kids who want to climb as a hobby as an after school activity. There are two different sessions for middle school climbers that meet on Thursday or Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. Elementary climbers meet Wednesays. 

Climbing Schools

From adults to children, there are a variety of options at the indoor gym for learning to climb. Private lessons are available, as well as set times for learning by age group.

Outdoor climbing classes range from traditional basic climbing to learning mountaineering, ice climbing, and guided climbs that can last from a day to a vacation in Mexico.
