Inside Atlanta: Star94’s Radio Host Jenn Hobby

Radio star shares her favorite spots in Atlanta

Inside Atlanta: Jenn Hobby

We're back with our series Inside Atlanta—each week, we sit down with influential locals to talk about what Atlanta means to them. Today we’re chatting with Star94’s radio host and personality Jenn Hobby. Hobby has worked in radio and TV in Atlanta her entire life, most famously as part of Q-100’s The Bert Show. Now, Hobby is one half of The Jeff and Jenn Show at Star 94.1 with co-host Jeff Dauler and co-host of Falcons Playback on Atlanta’s CW with Randy Waters and DJ Shockley.

Bottom line, if you listen to the radio in the city, you’ve heard Hobby’s voice telling you what’s up in Atlanta. Today we get a tour of The Big Peach lead by Hobby herself.

I live in… “We (my husband, Grant, our daughters, Lauren (3) and Reese (6 months), our dog, Carolina and I) live in the Midtown area and chose our neighborhood because we wanted to live near Piedmont Park. We love that life is “walkable” and we can find restaurants, shops and parks by foot. I think a lot of people are searching for that quality of life and it’s why Atlanta has nurtured so many great “pockets” with their own unique character. From Smyrna to Marietta Square to Little Five to Inman Park to Brookhaven, there are so many cool districts in Atlanta. Each defined by its own feel, culture and most importantly, food!”

I Wish People Knew… “about Atlanta’s exploding culinary scene – we have some of the most talented chefs and creative restaurateurs in the world!”

You Can Find Me… “In Piedmont Park. It’s a draw for our family for many reasons – the green space, the wide walkways (um, double stroller now!) and the pool. We love it every season. The Green Market with its local vendors, farmers and food trucks is our ideal way to start Saturday mornings.”

It’s Dinner Time, I’m headed to… BeetleCat for a fun night out with fresh raw oysters and cocktails, D.B.A. Barbecue for spot-on smoky pulled pork and kid-friendly atmosphere, Top Spice when we need the just-right-amount-of-heat, and Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall for brunch on the Atlanta BeltLine.

When we head OTP, it’s Marietta Square for Taqueria Tsunami for creative cuisine and service that rocks.”

Clock strikes 5 o’clock, I’m drinking… “ A spicy bloody Mary or French Chardonnay would be my day drink of choice. For dining out, I choose red wine, typically a malbec or tempranillo are my favorites. Barcelona always has a fantastic wine list with gratuitous bartenders, willing to give you a trial taste.”

If I Had to Stay in a Hotel, I’d check into… W Downtown. There’s a high-energy lobby bar, great music, cool pool deck and sleek rooms. Perfect for a girlfriend getaway staycation.”

Atlanta’s Best Kept Secret Is… The Cathedral of St. Phillip on Peachtree Road has a bookstore with a fantastic selection of both children’s and adult books and gifts. It’s a nook of Atlanta often overlooked.”

When I’m Playing Tourist, I go to…Zoo Atlanta, the Georgia Aquarium, Fernbank Museum and Piedmont Park.”

I Get My Sweat On… “Um, wish I had a good spot for this! Still trying to find the time. Right now it’s neighborhood walks with jogging strollers.”

I Love Spending My Money At... Tootsies in Buckhead for dresses and special occasions and 310 Rosemont for a splurge on myself. I recently snagged a steal on a flirty casual dress at Dress Up at The Forum Shops.”
