Staplehouse’s co-founder shares her favorite spots in Atlanta

We're back with our series Inside Atlanta—each week, we sit down with influential locals to talk about what Atlanta means to them. Today we’re chatting with Jen Hidinger, co-founder of Staplehouse and spokesperson for The Giving Kitchen. An Indiana native, Hidinger serves as an inspiration to much of Atlanta. Staplehouse was a dream shared between her and her husband, Ryan, an Atlanta chef, who sadly passed away from gallbladder cancer in 2012.

Hidinger persevered, and with the help of the community, was able to raise enough funds to open Staplehouse. An immediate success, the restaurant has received numerous accolades including the distinction of Bon Appetite Magazine’s “Best Restaurant in America”. Today we get a tour of The Big Peach led by Hidinger herself.

I live in… “Grant Park. I’ve been there for nine years and even bought my house as a foreclosure. It’s a really historic neighborhood and has a ton of character. The park is right there and the farmers market is glorious – it’s also right by the BeltLine.”

I Wish People Knew…  “that Atlanta is a city worth preserving. We should be refurbishing our old, historic buildings rather than tearing them down.”

You Can Find Me… “in Old Fourth Ward at Staplehouse, or down the street at Chrome Yellow Trading Co, a coffee and clothing shop. They’re great neighbors and I have meetings there all the time.”

It’s Dinner Time, I’m Headed to… “BoccaLupo or Kimball House, but if I’m staying in I’m ordering Noni’s.”

Clock Strikes 5’oclock, I’m Drinking… “anything at Kimball House. It’s a vibrant place with a warm energy – tons of community over there.”

If I had to Stay in a Hotel, I’d Check Into… “a cabin in Ellijay, GA.

It’s close to the city, but feels like you’re hours away. The quiet of the mountains is relaxing.”

Atlanta’s Best Kept Secret is… “all of the nooks and crannies and underpasses there are with street art! I love all of the street artists’ works.”

When I’m Playing Tourist I go to… “the Westside, Krog Street Market and Ponce City Market. I’ve been dying to go outside the city to see where “The Walking Dead” is filmed.”

I Get My Sweat On… “working at Staplehouse, or going on walks through my neighborhood with my three dogs.”

I Love Spending My Money at… “Lately, I love spending my money on plane tickets for travel and getting away.”
