The best Christmas present of all, and one you give yourself might be eating out on Christmas Day. Most restaurants are closed, but you can find a handful that will be serving on Dec. 25. And then there is the great Chinese tradition in the St. Louis area for Christmas. Choose one that's close to you for a stress-free drive, and either dine in or do the easiest of all possible options and order carryout. A few choices for Chinese around the St. Louis area are Sesame Chinese in Sunset Hills, LuLu Asian Kitchen in Olivette, Yen Ching in Richmond Heights, and King Doh in Warson Woods. Pere Marquette Lodge in Grafton, Illinois, just across the Mississippi River, provides a rustic but elegant setting for a Christmas Day dinner. Each year, the lodge serves up a sumptuous Christmas buffet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The menu includes a wide variety of traditional holiday and breakfast items. In 2018, the buffet was $27.95 for adults, $9.95 and for children ages 4 to 11. Children 3 and younger were free. If you're lucky, you might catch bald eagles on the river, their winter habitat.
Eclipse Restaurant in the Moonrise Hotel in the Delmar Loop serves brunch and dinner on Christmas Day. It's serving up a sophisticated prix-fixe menu, $55 per person or $65 with bottomless mimosas or $75 with bottomless Bloody Marys. You'll dine on choices like oysters; poached pear salad; filet mignon, king salmon or braised beef and pappardelle pasta; and turtle cheesecake, flourless chocolate torte, or beignets.
