Once a hunting and fishing lodge in the popular Poconos region of Pennsylvania, Split Rock is an expansive and reasonably priced four-season resort on over 1,200 acres in the town of Lake Harmony. Driving time is about two hours from New York City and 1.5 hours from Philadelphia.
Relaxed accommodations include lakeside lodge rooms, two-bedroom suites, down-to-earth villas, and duplex cottages. Many units offer kitchens and TVs, and some add fireplaces and balconies.
Amenities include a water park, indoor and outdoor pools, 27-hole golf course, a cinema that shows first-run movies, a fitness center, and numerous sports facilities such as tennis and basketball courts, an arcade, a bowling alley and a salon round out the amenities. Dining options include an American grill, lakeside tavern, and a sports bar.
Also accessible is the 15,990-acre Hickory Run State Park with its 44 miles of hiking trails. Trail biking is another popular activity; the resort can arrange ATV tours and guided moonlight bike rides through nearby Lehigh Gorge State Park. In addition, the resort can arrange professionally guided whitewater rafting trip on the Lehigh River in the Leigh River Gorge State Park.
Fun at Split Rock Resort
H2Oooohh! may not be the largest indoor water park in the Poconos, but it's sure to a hit with families. About.com's Theme Parks Expert has reviewed Split Rock's indoor water park, which has a family raft ride, a large wave pool, various water-slides and waterplay, and a FlowRider surfing simulator.
A schedule of family-friendly activities is updated weekly and include sporting tournaments, group games, bingo, scavenger hunts, turtle racing and more.
Other activities at Split Rock resort include miniature golf, indoor and outdoor tennis, archery, bocci ball, a movie theater, bowling alley, health club, golf course, sailing, fishing, paddle boats, water-skiing, hiking, biking, and golf at the Split Rock Country Club.
In wintertime, there's ice skating, sledding, cross-country, nearby downhill skiing and the indoor water park.
During the summer, Split Rock Resort offers three sessions a day for kids age 3 and up, and at a modest cost. A reduced schedule starts after Labor Day.
There is a wide variety of room categories, with pricing starting at under $150 a night. There is a resort fee of $20 per night applied to each stay.
Keep in mind:
- The waterpark is open to the general public and is free for guests of the resort.
- Towels are not provided at the water park, so bring your own.
