La Jolla is hilly, seaside community surrounded on three sides by ocean bluffs and beaches and just 12 miles north of downtown San Diego.  The climate is mild, the community is affluent, and it's no surprise that it's home to a couple of wonderful resort spas.

The Spa at Torrey Pines

Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, The Lodge at Torrey Pines is modeled after the famous Gamble and Blacker houses in Pasadena, California, two of the best examples of early 1900s Craftsman-style architecture by Greene & Greene.

Arriving guests are greeted at The Lodge's grand porte-cochère by doormen attired in kilted Scottish dress. Inside are 170 guest rooms including 7 suites

Many come here to golf the famed Torrey Pines Golf Course, considered heaven by such greats as Tom Watson, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. The Lodge is also the perfect base from which to explore the Torrey Pine reserve, 2,000 acres of unspoiled coastline with miles of hiking trails.  When you're ready to rest, The Spa at Torrey Pines features marine and botanical-based lines like Phytomer, SkinCeuticals, Farmhouse Fresh and NV Organics.  It specializes in detoxifying treatments like the signature Coastal Sage Scrub, which take place in a Vichy shower.

The design of The Spa at Torrey Pines was inspired by Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. A feng shui expert was consulted on the layout of the 9,500-square-foot spa, which has 14 treatment rooms,  two locker rooms (men’s and women’s), a relaxation lounge with a fireplace, dry saunas, herba-linfused steam rooms, and aromatherapy inhalation rooms.

A Yoga classes and guided nature walks through the Reserve are also offered. An outdoor grand-scale pool and whirlpool take advantage of the yearround temperate weather and beautiful views. 11480 North Torrey Pines Road La Jolla, California 92037.  Reservations: 858.777.6690
