Island Paradise, No Passport Required
From its beautiful beaches and kid-friendly pools to an endless array of activities for the whole family, South Seas Island Resort on Florida's dreamy Captiva Island offers a family vacation that feels laid-back and yet luxurious. Captiva Island's subtropical climate and Gulf of Mexico location mean the weather is idyllic year-round. Even when the temperatures are high, there's always a breeze.

Sanibel and Captiva Islands are famous for their abundance and variety of seashells. This seashell bulletin board is posted outside the on-site Sanibel Sea School at South Seas Island Resort. You guess the kind of shell and then reveal the answer.

Happiness is a Bike for Exploring
Like Sanibel and Captiva Islands, sprawling South Seas Island Resort is flat and extremely bike-friendly, with miles of wide paths, sidewalks and roads that take you everywhere you want to go. Many families rent golf carts to get around and there's also a trolley service with stops all over the resort. I rented this bike for $5 for my stay.

Morning at the Marina
Home to yachts and an award-winning sailing school, the resort's marina is a popular place for fishing and manatee spotting.

Scoops & Slices
Welcome to kid heaven. Scoops & Slices is a 50s-style ice cream shop-cum-pizza parlor with (wait for it) penny candy. There's also gluten-free pizza and frozen yogurt.

ScoutAbout is a self-guided activity tour with 15 "points of discovery" inside the resort where kids learn about everything from dolphins and manatees to keylime trees and osprey.

HQ for Watersports Fun
This is the resort's T-Dock, mecca for off-pier fishing as well as JetSki, kayak, and paddleboard rentals, banana boat rides, and parasailing.
